I read an arcticle last year and they did a test on all the octane boosters and found out none of them do shit, except there was one that boosted your octane like 2 points. I would call ATV salvage I heard he sells race fuel, or (as much as I hate to say this) Anchorage Drag Bike and get some race gas and mix it. At ADB it's like 10.75 a gal. and with 50/50 mix with supreme it comes out I think its 100 octane. or you could even call Meril Field and get some AV gas

i'm not taking about xyline as a conventional "octane booster" but as a higher octane fuel to mix with the 90 oct. i.e.-"4:1 will raise 90pts; = 99 oct from 90, but has compatibility issues with conventional oils" or something like that. xylene is a solvent, with a higher flash point than gasoline. what i have heard in the auto scene is that you can use it when running higher boost and timing, but it's either bad for the sensors, fuel system, deposits, or washing the cylinders of oil. can't remember, but last i checked, it was only $8/gal, which wouldn't be bad if i was only doing like a qt. per tank, or 5 gal. can.

I used it in my grand national with excellent results.

I was able to go from 15 LB boost to 19LB with no knock and had no issues.

in a 2 stroke, I dont know, but in a car with a turbo and a race motor, I would use nothing else.

i was thinking about asking this same question:) i like to run it in my grand am as well i have def seen a improvement in gas millage! i only use 4 oz to a tank though so not much, just a lil, they say you should mix a little 2 stroke oil in it even in a car just cause it takes some lubrication out of the gasoline or what not, so you might go a little more on the oil. just a side note xylene is 118 octane:) so boom boom hah i would love to talk more on this subject:)

haha, awesome. i'm real curious to try it with +4 and 18's, but i don't wanna "learn the hard way" at least not untill the fall when i plan on either doing a 4 mill, or pv build, anyways. so, you actually do pull power from it, not just knock resistance?

theres no substitute for real race gas or av gas, but if your gonna use a solvent to up the ocatane make shaw it doesnt kill plastics and rubber lines as stuff like toluene does.

you spend all this money on go fast parts so you may aswell spend up on the gas.

mm i would say knock resistance wich in my older car that still has distributor i can turn the dist a little and get better economy out of it, or i guess if you think of it as in more resistance means you can do things to make more power then:) and i paid 18 bucks for my gallon at homedepot where can you get for 8?! and i dont think its hard on rubber like acetone either, (acetone is 113 or 114 octane:)* but i will check on that

its hard on the brain cells so protect those hah

also forgot to add its in gasoline as it is

Oh I gotch you, where are you getting it at? I think Im just going to run supreme mixed with race gas. I got to do some shopping though for the best place to get it.

havn't baught it in 3 years, when i was diong body, but i think i was geeting it at carques on discount, or hightech supply.

and i used it on plastics and rubber all the time, where you couldn't use acetone or lacquer thinner.

so, it's pre-86 grand-am?

It seems to me it would be a hell of a lot easier to mix in some methanol if your sole intent is to boost octane cheaply.

Old timers have been doing it for a long time. Just adjust your jetting for the percentage you plan to run.

BTW methanol is 127 octane ;-)

it's not as much cost, as availiability. i ran into enough trouble finding premix oil near where i was ridding last week, and i'm not sure methanol, or race fuel will be near as easy as xylene to get a hold of, outside of anchorage, or fairbanks. how much will the jetting change with methanol?

its pre 86 grand am? i didnt get that but thats what i put it in anyways

yeah its pretty easy to find and im kinda curious to try it in the shee now:)

they didn't get real popular untill they became a compact in 85 with the 3.0 distributorless. or, were you talking about a different car?
