dragbanshee98 Posted June 18, 2009 Report Posted June 18, 2009 Let me explain better because there is no way around it. For example you take a stock motor that has 130psi. Let's say you can run 85 octane in it WITHOUT any pinging or detonation. The you turn around and put 114 octane in it. You will make more power with the 85 simply because it is more volatile. Now lets say you have 195psi. If you put 85 octane in it, you would melt the motor down within a few minutes or less because it burns so easily. So obviously you need to run higher octane fuel because it is harder to light and will not detonate so easily. So my point is the lower octane fuel you can run WITHOUT detonation the more power you will make. So in some cases you have to run higher octane to avoid that. But running higher octane fuel than what is needed for your engine is wasting energy. It is a fine line to be able to get the most power out of your engine. It is very similar to tuning. The closer you can get to stoich, the more power you will make BUT the motor will literally melt if you get to lean. So you have to run it richer than that. But if your run it to rich, your losing power. You just have to find that fine line for optimal power and longevity. yes i agree... for this guys motor setup i do not reccomend it... put those domes in buddy before u try the high octane race fuel Quote
chuckr Posted June 20, 2009 Report Posted June 20, 2009 the only thing running race fuel on stock cc heads will hurt is you wallet and slight throttle response i run a 50/50 mix in my supercharged RX1 and if i have any left after winter it goes in our quads Quote
