Burt Reynolds Posted June 8, 2009 Report Posted June 8, 2009 Ring seating isnt the only thing you have to be worried about during a break in. A new piston will expand further and faster with heat than a broken in piston. After a few heat cycles the piston will stabilize a bit and be a lot safer. This is one of the reasons that running heat cycles is important. Your rings wont seat very well over a big score mark. Sure if you just crank it out right off the bat you might get a better ring seal,but you take a bigger risk on expanding the piston and getting to tight and scaring it. Thats why I believe there needs to be a happy medium. . Quote
