I was out on a long rip today and something has gone bad in my transmission. My nuetral switch cover was letting oil leak. It leaked all but about half a quart out. The bike started making a squealing noise and was jerking bad so I pulled it over and got a ride home. I tore the basket off and checked fibers. They are fine. So then I turned the shaft for the front set of gears and there is a jingling noise coming from in there. I have not split the cases yet but will tomorrow.

Has anyone run into this and what shoud I suspect to find? The shaft spins free so I dont think its the bearing but also not sure what else would be making that jingle noise.

IDK what a neutral switch cover is.

Its the white plate below your front sprocket. Also referred to as shift drum plate. Case savers bolt ontop of them. Mine seems to be cracked and/or the o-ring is not sealing. Boss makes a billet one that I may end up buying if a new ring wont fix it.

So I was thinking the jingle I was getting was while the bike is in neutral. So I went out and shifted throught the gears and turned the shaft and didnt notice any skip in the gears or roughness from gear to gear. I think I may be in the clear. I think the squealing was from the clutch assembly running dry and the jingle was the "free" gears while in neutral. I also think new oil should be the fix. At the same time I think I should at least open it up and take a peek inside. I just hope I dont need a new tranny. After the last batch of parts I dont know if I can afford a new one. Plus my buddy who was assisting me droped my cluth basket and broke an ear off it so I will be looking to get another quick.

What about the kick starter. That is the most common banshee jingle

I just fixed that earlier in the day actually. No, its comming from in the motor. Motor is not running when I am doing this. I am rotating the shaft by hand. Like I said I think it is the "free" gears in there. The ones that are not notched onto the shaft. Thanks for the sugestion though. That thing was driving me nuts.
