smokethis Posted May 10, 2009 Report Posted May 10, 2009 Ok so here goes, it ran fine till I messed with it. 01 Banshee, Toomey T5's, stock bore, stock carbs, stock timing, cool head, 19 domes, k&n pods, water pump impeller, about 5500 ft. elevation, it kicked ass not many banshees up this way at all and there were some upset craptors moping about. Anyway here is what I did; 68mm cheetah cub cylinders, wiseco pistons to match, trinity stage iv head, 17cc 9degree domes, new stator with adjustable timing set to +4, mikuni vm34 roundslide carbs. kick it till the needle stops moving 155lbs. compression, I mixed it at 24to1 with tt 111 thinking I would run 5 gallons like that and the go to 32to1, so I get everything done and fire it up and it starts right up, idles fine but kind of flat sounding, let it warm up and give it some throttle and it falls on its face, just bogs and dies, I had 350 mains in it with the needle set at 3, everything about it tells me that it is to fat but I have leaned it down to 280 and it is no better, I went back out to the garage (after running around yelling my head off till the neighbors threatened to call the cops) put the stock carbs back on and who'd a thunk it, a little lean but runs like a raped ape,(dont ask its a long story and we all do dumb stuff when we are young), so I could use some help, I dont know if it makes a difference but remember that the carbs are round slides. smokethis Posted May 11, 2009 Author Report Posted May 11, 2009 gotta be someone that can help me with those carbs. is it wishful thinking that there is a program that will tell me what a good starting point is for the mikunis? come on guys wake up. Quote
AKheathen Posted May 11, 2009 Report Posted May 11, 2009 running 24:1 will lean your fuel abit, calling for bigger jets. Quote
Handyman Posted May 11, 2009 Report Posted May 11, 2009 I see you have mentioned everything except for the pilot jet and the air screw....have you checked those?? Quote
TNTS355 Posted May 11, 2009 Report Posted May 11, 2009 I see you have mentioned everything except for the pilot jet and the air screw....have you checked those?? What they both said sounds right. I am not good with elevation, or I would add more. Quote
dajogejr Posted May 11, 2009 Report Posted May 11, 2009 Run 32:1 and leave it there...switching ratios can change your jetting. You main only controls basicaly full throttle. I think you have some work to do on the air screws, pilot and needle, including making sure none of them are plugged or dirty. Quote
4strokekilla5 Posted May 11, 2009 Report Posted May 11, 2009 Yeah its gotta be your pilot or airscrew, tweak those a little bit. and i would go at much small incrimates dont make such big changes Quote
