zachass9 Posted May 5, 2009 Report Posted May 5, 2009 I just put together a very mild 350 motor. It has stock carbs, stock reeds, t6's, pods, +4 timing, noss head and a very mild port job (clean up). I have sank the carbs and everything is perfect until you got to get in the powerband!! This damn thing will not do it!! This thing runs absolutely flawless everwhere, until it tries to pull into the powerband, at which time it just stops pulling!! I jetted down and still no fix, and I cant jet down anymore and be safe. I really need some help here!! Where do I need to start? Pick up coil, computer, ground? I am lost and have now answers, please help!!!! Z Quote
AKheathen Posted May 6, 2009 Report Posted May 6, 2009 what did you sink the carbs in? were the port durations messed with at all? were the transfers opened up more than just smoothing them? have you done a plug chop? check the pickup gap, and ohm the coil, caps, and check the grounds. what exactly does it do when you get up there? or, should i say- how does it sound? zachass9 Posted May 6, 2009 Author Report Posted May 6, 2009 (edited) Synced!! LOL is that correct!! Hell they have been sank in carb cleaner and after the third or fourth time of that and ruling out carb/reed problems at the dunes, they may have ended up sank in beer!! Hell I know I have a few times while trying to figure out this problem!! None of the port durations were messed with at all!! These cylinders came off another perfectly running bike!! I just had them bored and honed and new pistons. The pickup seems to have had some issues in the past from the looks of it!! I may start there!! This thing has be baffled, everything is fine until it tries to get into the powerband and it just loses all power and its will to eccelerate!! If you keep it right on the edge of the band, it will run but will backfire every now and then, still never pulling into the band!! I probably sound like a total fricking idiot!! I am by no means a pro, but this isnt my first rodeo either!! Never seen anything like it!! Any and all advice is welcomed!! I am thinking about trying the CDI off of my bike and maybe buying a new pick up coil as well. Keep the advice coming!! PLEASE Edited May 6, 2009 by zachass9 Quote
TwistedSheeRida Posted May 6, 2009 Report Posted May 6, 2009 (edited) did you tear your intake boots? just a thought start the bike and spray carb cleaner on them see if it revs up Edited May 6, 2009 by TwistedSheeRida Quote
zachass9 Posted May 6, 2009 Author Report Posted May 6, 2009 Leak down rest was good and the bike is not lean!! It is still showing to be fat on plug chops!! Quote
lowbuckracing Posted May 6, 2009 Report Posted May 6, 2009 Gap your pickup with a buisness card.try to run it.Make sure your coil wires"Black and orange are on the right post. The black will be closest to you the orange towards the front of the bike. When you plugged your computer into your coil make sure the two wires in the loom were not crosssed....Oh and your problem can be as simple as a slide switch in your carbs..or the choke tube in between the carbs came off..Good luck Quote
zachass9 Posted May 6, 2009 Author Report Posted May 6, 2009 Thank you!! I have gapped the pick up as you have said 4 times, but it seems to move when I tighten the screws holding it down!! It looks to be at an angle, which may be my problem!! The slides are definately in the correct carb and the choke tube is in place and installed properly! Still clueless here!! thanks for all the help, I dont feel so dumb, because I was thinking along the same lines and already checked everything talked about!! I didnt wanna look like a dumbass by posting this, but.........looks to be the case anyway!! Thanks again Quote
desertdeweller Posted May 6, 2009 Report Posted May 6, 2009 test your stator see if it is in spec might be starting to fail. Quote
lowbuckracing Posted May 6, 2009 Report Posted May 6, 2009 The only dumbass is the one that doesnt try to fix it himself and spends a few chunks of change paying someone else...On the pickup----maybe you should rethread it with the next bolt size up..If it is not tightening down that is definetly an issue... zachass9 Posted May 6, 2009 Author Report Posted May 6, 2009 (edited) Its an 87 and never ran right before the total facelift and rebuild, so it is kinda of expected but still frustrating!! Thanks for the help!! i think someone has changed the harness or something because there are some taped dead end wires where the wires from the stator meet the harness!! I Chased wires and everything looks to be in good shape but might have to do a total wiring run down!! Thanks for the help!! The pick up tightens down but seems to angle away from the flywheel the screws tighten up!! Can you buy just a pick up? If so, do you know anyone that has one they wanna sell? AKheathen Posted May 6, 2009 Report Posted May 6, 2009 you can back the pickup away a little, and then bendi it back strait while it's tightened down. then try to set it again Quote
lowbuckracing Posted May 6, 2009 Report Posted May 6, 2009 Also do a check on the woodriff key..Make sure its not worn out.. Quote
