supersider Posted April 14, 2009 Report Posted April 14, 2009 so i need to rebuild my top end. tonight i started tearing it down. took the cyclinders off and then i noticed a little sand and dirt feel off the cyclinder when i was pulling it off. it got on the crank and i dont think i got all off. whats the worse that can happen? also how do i get it out without rippin the case apart? open to all suggestions. thanks! screamingcub Posted April 14, 2009 Report Posted April 14, 2009 I would also split the cases, It will give you the opportunity to put in new seals throughout the cases,water pump etc... and you will be able to check the clutch wear and shifter adjustments. Make sure to use the proper flywheel puller! Quote
sleeper06 Posted April 14, 2009 Report Posted April 14, 2009 Get a few cans of carb cleaner,fill crank with carb cleaner,suck it out with shop vac,then fill again and rotate it,vac it again then oil the shit out of it,sand is nasty though,spin it slow to feel any dirt Quote
mopar1rules Posted April 14, 2009 Report Posted April 14, 2009 you can try flushing the sand out w/gas. if it was mine, i would tear it down to the cases and rise out the crank in a parts washer to be sure that its sand free. Quote
CoreyReid Posted April 14, 2009 Report Posted April 14, 2009 if you decide against splitting the cases, this worked once for me... i went to my local mcdonalds and got a bunch of straws so that i could reduce the size of my shop vac nozzle and stick it in every crack and crevice. luckly never had a problem, but i would probably split the case as several people have already stated. C&B Posted April 14, 2009 Report Posted April 14, 2009 I f youre not goin to split it wich I highly reccomend, take it out of the bike, fill it with youre pre mix gas, and flip it over several times letting the gas drain out. spin the crank and blast as much air as you can into the bearings. Oil the shit out them and cross youre fingers.... Quote
