Birchwoodbanshee Posted March 19, 2009 Report Posted March 19, 2009 Hi everyone I just traded an older pick up truck for an 87 banshee. I have been told the the motor been redone 3 years back and it has fatty pipes on it. It has been sitting for awhile outdoors it seems. I did get it to run for a bit and it seems to run ok. I need to pick up a new clutch cable before I can ride as the one on it is slightly froze. So my first question is were would you guys start because it is a bear to get running. Should I just tear down the carbs and clean them up? I just want to say thanks in advance and this will be my first 2 stroker so bare with me!!! Quote
Ziklag Posted March 19, 2009 Report Posted March 19, 2009 If it were me I would do the following : Clean everything real good. Remove all the Plastics and Check every bolt or fastener you can find Lube the Suspension Change all the Fluids Clean the Carbs Drain Any Old Gas Check the Tires for Proper Inflation and Weathering Clean or Replace the Air Filter Jump Up and Down on it Make Sure it doesnt make funny noises and the Suspension is Traveling Properly Change the Plugs Get it Running and Rag the Piss out if it after a good warm up, do this close to your house or truck just in case something breaks. Since this is a J-Arm Fram like mine I would suggest inspecting the J-Arm to Shock Clearence too since it is common for people to hit objects hard enough to bend the J Arms out of Shape. I Probably forgot some things but I am sure the others will point out anything I forgot. Quote

vulvafan537240 Posted March 19, 2009 Report Posted March 19, 2009 welcome to the hq and congrats on your "new" banshee. i would definately clean the cabrs thoroughly, drain the gas, change the plugs and do a compression check. Quote
CallWhy816 Posted March 19, 2009 Report Posted March 19, 2009 I'm kind of in the same boat. I bought another Banshee last week, it's a completely stock 03 and it had been in storage for a couple of years with the gas in it. First time I started it you could just tell it wasn't all there. Just cleaned out the carbs and the air box and it runs like new. My last Banshee I didn't get too technical with it, all I had were pipes. Now with this one I want some good mods too it and figured this was the place to get all the info I can handle. And after reading through some posts I realize I have ALOT to learn. Just bought some SST pipes, next will be a timing plate, and some cool heads. Figured those were the best starting points. Quote
