DallasGDub Posted March 15, 2009 Report Posted March 15, 2009 Bad ass. Sounds good. I see your proud!!! I know I was looking just like that after my rebuild start up. I will be doing my break-in this week. I can not wait. After that it all get put back together and I am ready. Pretty much like Loco said is how I am doing mine just to be on the safe side. Check this out, http://www.duncanracing.com/techfaq/Tech_2...-break-in.phtml Quote
dirtydownunder Posted March 15, 2009 Report Posted March 15, 2009 i dont do the cool down periods. 1) ride around for 20mins without holding high revs but using all the rev range. 2) belt the fuck out of it. Quote
locogato11283 Posted March 15, 2009 Report Posted March 15, 2009 I think you get as pissed off as i do when people quote pictures. I feel your pain. Glad you got it running bro! if its pics of hot chicks its ok.. otherwise, yea quoting pics is wack. Bad ass. Sounds good. I see your proud!!! TJScott Posted March 15, 2009 Author Report Posted March 15, 2009 necessary, no. i see what they are going for though. Quote
locogato11283 Posted March 15, 2009 Report Posted March 15, 2009 necessary, no. i see what they are going for though. whats that? Quote
TJScott Posted March 15, 2009 Author Report Posted March 15, 2009 whats that? basically just really taking advantage of heat cycles. Quote
locogato11283 Posted March 15, 2009 Report Posted March 15, 2009 basically just really taking advantage of heat cycles. how so? im not saying they are wrong..im just saying that it is not necessary and its not going to increase or decrease the life of your motor. break in should be a simple process, not something that takes hours upon hours. a couple heat cycles followed with an easy ride is sufficient for any type of atv motor. sandman81 Posted March 15, 2009 Report Posted March 15, 2009 1. 5 mins of idling. 2. 10 mins of cooling. 3. 5 mins of idling. 4. 10 mins of cooling. 5. 10 minute ride varying the throttle a little. 6. cool. 7. run the piss out of it. (provided jetting is good) i read somewhere, can't remember, but it was basically the samething you post. the only difference was to retorque the heads after every cool down. what do you think about that idea? TJScott Posted March 15, 2009 Author Report Posted March 15, 2009 well its not going to matter anyways, maybe if you didnt put a top end in it 4 times a year i would consider it, basically they are just trying to get assurance that your rings will seat. Quote
sheerider1026 Posted March 15, 2009 Report Posted March 15, 2009 well loco, i 100% agree with your break-in process.. thats how i do all my motors.. but fuck it!! if you guys wanna break your motors in running them hard, go ahead, its your motor anyway,.. i know that all my motors have lasted a very long time.. DallasGDub Posted March 15, 2009 Report Posted March 15, 2009 I am sure Duncan goes overboard so they can cover their ass'. Hell some don't even break in, they just rebuild and run. Never heard of it being a issue. I know I should, but I do not torque the head bolts. I just tighten to feel. Is that bad, its a Noss head, what can I fuck up? Quote
messer007 Posted March 15, 2009 Report Posted March 15, 2009 fuck it ride it like you stole it she'll be fine Quote

Is that bad, its a Noss head, what can I fuck up? well if you dont get them all the same, your head can slowly warp, you run the risk of under or overtightening them therefore stripping them out, ect. its just good to follow torque specs. especially on your clutch. Is that bad, its a Noss head, what can I fuck up? i dont torque mine either. the one time i did, the fuckin thing leaked. i havent torqued a head since 2001. well if you dont get them all the same, your head can slowly warp, you run the risk of under or overtightening them therefore stripping them out, ect. its just good to follow torque specs. especially on your clutch. i must have an amazing internal torquer then, because ive NEVER torqued anything on the clutch and havent on the head for many years. ive never had an issue.
