A while back I let my buddies borrow my shee because they wanted to go on a trip up north (I had to work and couldn't go on the trip) big mistake. They come back and said that after like 5 hours of non stop riding it randomly shut down and they couldn't kick start it (or push start it). After kicking some ass for a couple days and feeling sorry for myself for letting them take it I start tearing her apart.

First thing I notice is that it really wont turn over at all. Second when I took the right exhaust pipe off there was metal shavings inside it =(. I get down to the cylinders and they appear fine, on the head there are marks and on the pistons, but very minor. I thought it was maybe the rings, but no luck. My right side crank bearing let go.

What do you think, was the primary cause? Poor oil/fuel mixture? Riding 5 hours straight or the combo of both?

Now that its all apart what do I do? I know I need at least the crank, but while I have it apart does it make sense to bore it and put new pistons in? What kind of crank should I get?

Any help is much appreciated

the five hrs shouldn't have hurt it. sounds like it might have been mixed lean? if it was alot colder where they were riding or alot of change in elevation, the jetting cold have been off. i'd never lend my banshee to anyone!!!

Sorry to hear that,Banshees are too owner specific for anybody to use another one,I run into problems like that all the time with people. If I were you I buy a stock stroke long rod Hot Rods crank,795 serires pistons .020 over,bore/hone ,your set again.Never make that mistake again

Yea I don't want to go all out, but I want it done the right way. If I have to replace the crank why not get some more power out of it. My goal is to keep it around 800 dollars total, all labor will be me. Does it make sense to do the clutch and such as well?

Unfortunatally your talking to one anal bastard,I replace everything more than usual,my friends make out well,Do you have a billet basket,if not check cushions for play on stock basket.I would do a clutch

Your looking at

crank=$500

seal kit=50

piston kit/gaskets=155

clutch gasket=15

bore/hone=$150(might be diffrent by you)

clutch/springs=$99

If you go stroker you need to drop port heights for optimal performance,These prices can vary a little and im sure people will catch feeling but I have built alot of shit and you can go broke trying to save money especially with a shee

Not a bad deal but I much rather see you go with a cool head and cut domes with the rite porting, you dont have to port rite away but I dont know personally how much power you would gain from just a crank.

Pretty cheap deal,If you want to port later then just buy the kit run it ,when your ready its going to be pistons, bore, porting, coolhead instead of just spending now on coolhead and port. You get where im going with this Its like doing everything twice if you decide you want power.A 4mil play port is reasonable from fast racing plus you get discounts if you buy with him.I would hate too see you put it together and not be happy

06 is right, I too recommend running the cut domes and having it ported. After doing this upgrade you will have one badass banshee. See how much Fast will charge, then make up your mind.

i didnt port my jugs when i built my 4mill because i was running low on cash. i was thinking kinda like you; why go with a stock stroke crank when it costs the same to build a 4mill? i would def get it ported tho.

i planned on sticking with this setup for a little while then going with a 4mill cub. of course that was before the economy went to crap and my job cut out all my OT.

i know how you feel with letting buddies ride your shee. my topend blew because i let my little brother ride it. i only had it 2 days.....he sucks!

I know man I feel your pain, it sucks to loose your banshee to someone else having fun =(, well who can I send my cylinders out to get them ported? Ok so I basically decided I'm gonna run the 4 mil crank and new pistons, and Ill also send them out to get ported. Do I have to run an aftermarket head?
