pinkshee Posted March 6, 2009 Author Report Posted March 6, 2009 no i don't have the stock timing key. and since it is an oem crank i would think that the keyway is in the right spot. I am running one of those 2 stage uni filters(didn't think about that) the trigger on the flywheel passes directly over the pickup coil. is anyone near jacksonville nc who could let me try the cdi swap? and i definitely don't ride in the air screw range, wot giving it hell when i can.(unless my ol lady is on the back. thanks. anything else? AKheathen Posted March 7, 2009 Report Posted March 7, 2009 Do you still have the stock timing key? Maybe put that in and try iy. Carb slides in right? I would put it on top dead center, and make sure the trigger is crossing the pickup in the right spot. I don't know how it would have gotten off, but I would check it. Is it possible that the new crank has the keyway slot machined in the wrong spot? baseline timing should be +17, and here is a mark to check, but you use a timing light. i think it would be a fiasco that you would catch on video, pulling it and checking the timing at the same time :yelrotflmao: Quote

Nobody said to check it while it's running. And the stock CDI is on a curve, not set at 17. Baseline is 11, then advances to 17. It's information like this, that makes me look right past all of your posts. I'm trying to help this person out, thinking outside the box, and you open your smart ass mouth. Quote

I thought the pickup triggers @+17, and the cdi retards it to +11. i could be wrong, but not knowing that, and looking for it to trigger at tdc could lead someone to believe that it's off by 17. i was thinking out loud, visualizing someone checking the stock mark while being pull started. chill fucker :shoothead: I'll remember not to piss in your coffee next time. Quote
