someone82 Posted March 2, 2009 Report Posted March 2, 2009 ok got carbs on yesterday, tore em apart for a thourough clean. has 45 pilots and 165 mains..... idles pretty good but a slight bog off idle. rips up top. what can i do to get rid of the off idle 1/2 throttle bog? ohhh air lid is removed. thanks guys What needle are you running and what clip is it on. I also think your rich on the mains for not having any porting. Try 160's and go from there. You can try moving the clip up on the needle and see if it improves your bog, if it does your rich. Quote

Hardly any smoke at all either....He didnt have 160's so i tried the 158's to see....doesnt seem to help, also idles high now so im almost sure its lean I have JJH needles, the clips were in different locations on both carbs.... one was at top spot and the other was at middle.... I put em both at middle when i put the 158's in.... I think ima throw the 165's back in for now until i can get some 160's......???? what do you guys think??? Help please..... pilots are at 1.5 turns out bogs off idle and after i give it gas it seems to wanna idle high for a few seconds and then will settle back down.... does this mean im lean with the 158's??? Ieat4strokes Posted March 4, 2009 Author Report Posted March 4, 2009 I also added the vforce 3's today when i put the 158's in.... adding reeds shouldnt affect my jetting right? To try to clear up my post above.... Im at sea level, when i got the carbs it had 45 pilots and 165 mains.... I added the T5's and vforce 3's and carbs.... slight bog off idle but runs great up top... smoked a little more than before and stronger smell of gas from exhaust. So I took advice on going to 160's but local dealer was out, they had 158's, I got them and now it bogs worse off idle like its not getting gas then after a few blips of the throttle it seems to catch up but then idles high after i let off gas then after several seconds it idles back down... then when I give it gas after it has settled down it bogs again..after it "catches up" i can give it gas and it dont bog just when it settles down to where its supposed to idle....It has JJH needles, middle clip, 1.5 turns out on air screw....Thanks guys Quote
tidos76 Posted March 4, 2009 Report Posted March 4, 2009 (edited) the idle would stick a lil high(maybe 500rpm higher) sometimes when i had them, i thought it was just my twist throttle. its nothing serious. just blip the throttle if it idles a lil high. i'm not too sure about the low end bog. have you looked at your plugs? if its smoking alot when ideling it may be a lil rich on bottom. try going 1 turn out on the air screws. if it was good on top with the 165's put them in. you need to do a plug chop. read this. after you do that. the the same thing at half throttle. instead of changing the mains on the 1/2 throttle run move the needle, down is richer, up is leaner. once you got that done work on the pilots and air screws. at an idle you should get a lil smoke and a clean steady idle. blip the throttle. you should get a lil puff of smoke and a quick response. adjust your air screws until you get a better response. if you have to go too far in or out go to the next size pilot jet. remember its always better to be rich than lean. plugs are cheaper than pistons. This link will help you too. Edited March 4, 2009 by tidos76 Quote
Ieat4strokes Posted March 4, 2009 Author Report Posted March 4, 2009 appreciate it tyler......the links were very helpful..... Quote
Ieat4strokes Posted March 5, 2009 Author Report Posted March 5, 2009 well i followed the instructions on that link as far as dialing in my pilots.... on my 45's in order for me to get a crisp off idle rev im only at .5 turn out....any further and it bogs. so i need the next size up? 48's?? and i put my 165's back in because 158 had me way to lean, plugs were a light grey/ white....but all i did was tool aroundthe yard a few times with them in..... only thing is finding if im too fat on my main, it revs clean and good till top but in like 5th and 6th it dont want to rev ALL the way, almost like i could ride in 6th forever.... it should rev out making me want to let off gas right? or i should just quit guessing and do a plug chop? lmfao Quote
