i took my carbs off tonight and my slides are very black is this comen and should i clean it befor i reassamble the bike and if this isnt comen then how can i fix it and thanks alot to everyone on here helping me figure out my bike a little better

Ive seen many black slides in stock carbs......its common..

i believe it's a friction coating from the factory

 

I agree.

 

If you have an older bike, your slides might wear out a bit, you can see it changing back to silver, and they'll start to "hang up" on you, and not slide as smoothly.

 

Or if you nick a slide by forcing it in the wrong way, and it gets a small burr in it...then you can sand it off.

My slides were partially black when I bought my 03 banshee used. It was just old oil and dirt and washed off with a bit of gas. She ran much better after cleaning cause the slides moved freely with no sticking

someone probably removed the coating before you got it it's a coating from the factory, but i'm just not sure if it's friction coating or not. should be covered all the way around and look like black paint. i wouldn't scuff it off, but do what you want. :shrug:

Don,t think so. The slides are the same gold color all over, even in the groove and top and bottom

maybey it changed over the years. mines a 97. i could be wrong :shrug:

 

does anyone else know for sure? :ermm:
