killshee Posted January 26, 2009 Report Posted January 26, 2009 should i wire my tether to the switch on the bars or to the key switch or doesn't it make a diff? Quote
2001Stroker Posted January 26, 2009 Report Posted January 26, 2009 I would get rid of the factory kill switch all together, put it there, and get an aftermarket light switch. Quote
killshee Posted January 26, 2009 Author Report Posted January 26, 2009 i was planing on hooking the lights to be on all the time with no switch and have nothing but a tether Quote
278 Posted January 26, 2009 Report Posted January 26, 2009 i was planing on hooking the lights to be on all the time with no switch and have nothing but a tether Thats the way it is on sleds so I dont see a problem there, Just make sure you wire both the high and low beams up. That actually a great Idea man hope you dont mind if I steal it haha, and since I dont have a key switch I dont have to worry about where to wire it lol Quote
fastrthnu Posted January 26, 2009 Report Posted January 26, 2009 you may be able to run it like a relay. there should be a ground wire from your main switch on the bars that has a separate ground plug on it that your tether with plug into. the other wire from the tether should ground on the chassis. thats how mine works. fastrthnu Posted January 26, 2009 Report Posted January 26, 2009 i kno that but does it matter if its hooked to the switch or the key or are they the same thing you may be able to do it through they key, though I think a tether is a normally open circuit. I cant remember off hand. in other words when the cable is pulled its supposed to ground and kill the motor, so if you closed the circuit through the tether this means the cable will have to be pulled off. Correct me if Im wrong though. I cant remember for sure and I dont have my tester here. thats how the kill switch can turn the bike off while the key is still in the on position. they key switch is a cut off of main power. Quote
locogato11283 Posted January 26, 2009 Report Posted January 26, 2009 i have no key switch, light switch or factory kill switch.. i wired in a pro design kill switch to my coil. thats the only way to shut off my bike. Quote
AKheathen Posted January 27, 2009 Report Posted January 27, 2009 if you want to do it through the keyswitch wires, just connect it to the black wires, and leave the red and brown wires connected to eachother. like fastrthnu said, it's normally open. connecting to the black/white wire and ground or black wire anywhere on your harness will work fine too Quote
