This summer when I was home, on of my great buddies told me that I should order some Indy 500 cylinders and put them on my quad, he stated that they bolt right up to the shee bottom end, does anyone know the truth behind this?

 

A little more history behind this guy he is a factory certified Arctic cat(snowmobile/4-wheeler) /honda(4 wheeler, outboard boat motor)/ski-doo (snowmobile, jet ski, 4 wheeler)/mercury boat motor,,, technician,, but sometimes I think he is just messing with me to see if I will sepend the money so he can build a project! But anyways, has anyone else heard of this, or must I be a ginnie pig?

:blink: polaris indy 500? not heard of it, but the pistons/porting is way different, and i don't know if the transfers will match. i'm sure ot will tear your crank to shreads if you don't upgrade to the strongest possible. don't know the stroke either. piping would be interesting, to say the least. if you had a spare burned up motor, you coud pickup a trashed polaris with good running parts, and throw a grand at it, to see. but i would check the stroke/ height, and if there is parts that will make it work. for example, longrod 500 pistons, +7 crank with short rods, std rod pistons with long rods and stock stroke, etc... to know if he's completely pullin your dick, get a new base gasket from each and compare, and look for proof

If stick with cubs, cheetahs, or a twister aftermarket cylinder.

 

You would probably be happy with a set of good ported stock cylinders too, depending on what you're trying to accomplish.

 

Sounds like your buddy doesn't know banshees very well.

Yea, I knew there had to be more to it than just get the cylinders and slap them in with a piston kit, and I am not going to do it to the 01 that I have, maybe when I get back to the states in a couple of years I will start playing with it, I am currently stationed in Germany, but thanks for the advice guys!
