zachass9 Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 I am in the process of building a 421 Cheetah and I am wondering about the necessity and functionality of a lock up clutch!! Jim at passion is porting and some other work on the motor right now, but we are ballparking right at 100 horses upon completion. I run a stock frame, stock tranny, shearers and 7 degrees of timing. I spend 50% dragging and 50% open duning. I run a 4 over swinger and 22x11x8 10 paddle extremes!! My question is whether or not I will NEED a lock up and if it is practical, since this is a duner!! Jim told me I will wanna run bigger tires, and re gear. My other paddles are 25x12x9 12 paddle haulers. If I run these it will only be on the drag strip, but looking at all possibilities!! Will the stock clutch with billet basket and dirt digger plates and springs hold up? All opinions needed and appreciated!! Thanks Z Quote
lowbuckracing Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 good fibers and springs will be fine...If you do need to step up just call Kev or Jeff here from the HQ and they both can get the street bike fibers set up for you...Good luck,JB Quote
jbooker82 Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 I run one on my banshee with a stock transmission. I dont have any shifting issues I put it on when I built my motor in my sig so I coudnt tell you if I really needed it. josh Quote
sheerider1026 Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 here is a good word of advice "GET A LOCKUP AND DUNABLE OVERIDE TRANNY".. i have a 392 cub myself makin around 80 horse or so.. it would not shift and ate clutches like they weren't shit.... i just installed my overide and lockup.. i would never go back, and i will also admit that all that power i had was useless until i put the overide and lockout in... it is now a bad mofo to ride.. power is defiantely getting to the ground and shifting isues are a thing of the past... i'll bet you money that you will love it!!!! zachass9 Posted January 16, 2009 Author Report Posted January 16, 2009 My riding buddy has a built cub and has gone thru 2 duneable overides already!! He has a comp on his bike and he got exactly 12 hours out of each tranny!! That is the only thing scaring me away from the d.o. Quote
zachass9 Posted January 16, 2009 Author Report Posted January 16, 2009 thank you for the input!! Cant wait to get damn thing back together!! Quote
sheerider1026 Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 WOW.. 12 hours?? who is cutting these trannys for him?? sounds like it wasn't cut right.. maybe it wasn't a dunable,, if it was a regular overide and he was riding it like a dunable that would cause it to go out that fast... good luck in hich ever u decide though..
