Cold blooded or something else?

ok i left the gas off which i really shouldnt and i never do. i always leave my gas on and 2 days go by and i try to start it. well needless to say i was out of breathe and the shee wasnt running. i pulled the plugs and they were soaked. im thinking maybe it might be a mixture of cold blooded and me not being used to cold starting it? that and maybe new plugs. help me out i want to make sure its not something to bad. it use to start 1st or 2nd kick.(thats why im thinking its the cold)

Leaving the gas on or off should have nothing to do with it.

Colder air requires more fuel.

 

Try turning both air screws in .5 to 1 turn...and try again.

You did pull the choke out all the way, right?

 

And change the plugs, just for the hell of it.

 

If you're riding in much colder weather, it's a good idea to richen up the main jet as well...if it was dialed in when it was warm.

I always shut my fuel off, could be needing rejetted for the cold.

yea i choked it. and i might try the air screws. i dont do much winter riding. and the gas is prob. about 1 month to 2 months old???

Smell the gas in the tank. If it has a turpentine type smell to it...put fresh gas in the tank and drain the carbs.

ok im retared.lol i went out choked it and gave it no gas and started up idling after 3 kicks. so i think shes good. i need to get antifreeze so i can let it idle and ride it.lol

Please at the least check your plugs and if needed, richen up your jetting.

Many a man has leaned out their bike flying around in the cold and locked up or broke a motor....for a few bucks worth of plugs and jets...which could've prevented it.

i would but i dont plan on doing any winter riding at all. i just want start it and run it every once in awhile. i dont like the cold little lone be out riding in it.lol

I believe the stock kick starter ratlling, hard to get into nuetral (stock tranny, no shift star, etc.), and the hard to start after you shut the stock fuel pingel off is common Banshee stuff.

Ok...in that case, turn each air screw in 1/2 a turn...and with the chokes, it should start just fine...

I'd drain that gas out and put fresh in before you run in the warm weather....and shake the bike a little before you start it to mix the fuel/oil. It tends to separate a little in colder weather....

ya il prob do that. im not to big into being out in the cold unless i have to. so i tend to stay inside at all costs lol. but yea thanks man il take that advice for sure most appreciated

We ice race here...so, out on the ice with no trees or anything to block the wind...it gets butt ass cold!!

what kinda racing you do on ice? looks like that would be a blast to me. i dont care much for the cold but if you dress warm once yo get going you dont really get cold. do you run a different oil and mix in the cold or the same all year? must have some hella studded tires to get a shee to hook on ice lol

ya that does look pretty badass like he said if you were dressed warm and ur addrenalin was up really wouldnt matter

There's not any organization to it. Last year, the sled guys setup cones and pulled a permit. They coned of 660 feet. Sleds ran on one strip, we ran on the other.

 

The majority of us run methanol, so it's a good idea to make sure your oil will stay suspended (mixed) with fuel in cold temps.

 

Chizels or picks, the numbers and patterns vary. But most guys take a flat, turf tire and shave knobs off, put the chisels or picks in with big washers as backers (so they don't fold over) and run a tube.

 

It's fun...arm drop stuff... And you have to gear different for the longer runs (we normally do 300 feet in MI)...but it's something to pass the time and hang with buds till race season...
