i have this intake on my 97, and i really like it, added a bunch of power, and made it much easier to work on. i want to do a new intake on my 06, since i do a lot of trail riding, and like flying thru mud and puddles, should i do a different setup? i do this all the time on my 97, and have only had a problem a few times, it seems to me if i have bottom skid plates, the toomey filter is up high enough its pretty covered, and the outerwear blocks the water. what do you all think? also, is it really tru you need to change the outerwear every like 6 months or whatever because they lose water repellency?

wash + dry +scotch gaurd = good as new...

i wonder if you could bolt raptor carbs and intake to a 2:1? just an idea- kinda like x-pipe

I ride trails with my bike only when not to wet and muddy because of my pods, but never did like the mud with my banshee. Thats why I have a rhino, If I were you I'd stick to a box with no lid or a K&N power lid whatever their called. There's always going to be that puddle you don't want to slo down for and its going to getcha anyway.

Yeah....I'm running lidless for that very reason. When we went to Badlands Jugriggs hit a puddle fast and it stalled his bike and he had pods on it. The box is not as good performance wise as pods, but for various conditions involving water I can't see a better way to do it than leave the box without the lid.

i mean i have gotten my 97 stalled out with water 1 time, i think it could have been the stator cover gasket though, all i did was take out the plugs, burn them with a lighter, and have someone tow me till it started again, ran like shit for a while, then everything burned out and it went ran fine, this was a huge puddle i hit going pretty fast. the performance gain from the toomey filter might be worth getting stalled out in water for me, since i never ride alone, i can always get tow started.

if i decide to run the toomey filter, but then want to run no lid box, like if its raining or something, i would need to re-jet?

To be on the safe side, more than likely.

what kind of stores sells that shit? would they have it in home depot? so you think as long as i keep my outerwear maintained with the spray, and the filter oiled, i should be good with the setup im running? i was thinking of the CFM airbox, because i like to fly thru mud and puddles, but it seems like it will take off some power.

i think so. prolly wal-mart; fred meyer too. been around for years. air box shouldn't take off power with the top off. and your setup depends on how much water is actually getting up there.
