jayzx10r Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 I was riding today in the sand (Glamis  ) and my rear caliper locked up the brake to the rotor. So now me rotor is this nice shade of tempered...the caliper was so hot that water boiled off of it!! What would cause this to happen and what do I need to do to fix it? I just ripped off the rear brake system so I could continue on with my ride.... Thanks, Jay. Quote

Thanks, Jay. contamination in the brake fluid ... you can rule it out by checking the cap boot to see if it is swollen ... thats one idea.... frozen slide pins check your rubbers to see if inside is corroded loose or bent mount pin... u would probably have seen it when you took it off though....just some things to check..... 2001Stroker Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 I'm gonna guess that you don't have an e-brake. I would say caliper piston froze, or the pins seized. You said you got the brakes off? Try to push the piston back in. It should go in fairly easy with a c-clamp or a caliper tool. If you can't do it, take the line off at the caliper and try again. That way you can eliminate the rest of the system. Quote

Never having taken a rear caliper apart, if anyone has tips for me...feel free to post em!! I 'spect I can check the manual though...... :geek: Quote
T_Shee Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 make sure the slide pins arent frozen first tho. as was posted before Quote
