quikshee Posted November 22, 2008 Report Posted November 22, 2008 I put my bottom end back together the other day and dropped it in the frame, when i hooked the clutch back up there was no resistance when i pulled the clutch lever. I can't find out why it's not grabbing, the clutch push lever slides in and out. I think that may be the problem but i'm not sure how to fix it. Any help would be great Quote
Keyser Soze Posted November 22, 2008 Report Posted November 22, 2008 I have had the same problem before. There is a little nut on the other side of the pressure plate. The nut came off. No resistance. Id check that first. Quote
T_Shee Posted November 22, 2008 Report Posted November 22, 2008 what do you mean by push lever? make sure the ball bearing is still in behind the pressure plate. Quote
quikshee Posted November 22, 2008 Author Report Posted November 22, 2008 what do you mean by push lever? make sure the ball bearing is still in behind the pressure plate. By "push lever" I mean the part that the clutch cable hooks to and operates Quote
hollisatp Posted November 22, 2008 Report Posted November 22, 2008 make sure you have the pressure plate on properly.. I did the same thing and put it back on without aligning the arrows together. Quote
quikshee Posted November 22, 2008 Author Report Posted November 22, 2008 Ok I pulled the clutch cover back off and the pressure plate, the ball is still there and the arrows are aligned. When i put the plate and springs back on still no clutch, i noticed that when i push the part with the nut on that is directly behind the plate and old it then pull the clutch there is resistance. I tried tightening and loosening the threaded screw part but it kept tryin to strip on me. Any ideas guys? Quote
hollisatp Posted November 22, 2008 Report Posted November 22, 2008 take a look at the top of your case where the cable connects. Are the arrows lined up there? Quote
quikshee Posted November 22, 2008 Author Report Posted November 22, 2008 Well i got the clutch pull I wanted, but when i pull the clutch in the only thing that moves is the pressure plate. Did i miss something??? I thought the plates were supposed to separate when i pull the clutch? Also the engine will not start anymore, i only tore the bottom end off and left the top whole. It has great spark but it doesnt seem to be getting any fuel to the spark plugs, the carbs sat for a few months. I'm thinking they need a good cleaning since they sat so long but am not for certain. Quote
hollisatp Posted November 22, 2008 Report Posted November 22, 2008 the pressure plate IS the only thing that should move.. sounds like that part is built correct.. gas sitting in your carbs is not a good thing for a long period of time.. I took mine off recently while doing a rebuild, no gas, just the oil left. Could be clogging the air intake needle.. Did you try to put a small amount of gas dirctly into the cylinder? I have a spray bottle the I put some freah gas in, open the carbs fully, the give it about two mists in each. This should at least tell you if it is your carbs, or electrical... But I would definately clean the carbs. Quote
quikshee Posted November 22, 2008 Author Report Posted November 22, 2008 My clutch acts like its not disengaging when I pull the clutch lever, it will be in gear and i will pull the clutch and the wheels just lock when i try and roll it. When it's in neutral it rolls just fine. Quote
hollisatp Posted November 22, 2008 Report Posted November 22, 2008 ok.. sounds like an adjustment.. do you have a clymers manual? There is a correct way to adjust the clutch. First try tightening the adjustment on the clutch handle itself. this would be the easiest. loosen the nut, tighten it all the way until you feel loose play in the clutch. Then tighten it until you can feel the pressure plate tap the clutch basket. I am assuming you have the whole clutch and gear oil already in place. Just sounds like you have it adjusted too tight that it will not disengage.. Quote
quikshee Posted November 22, 2008 Author Report Posted November 22, 2008 Nope, no clymers. I've been using the manual that you can download from the HQ. Well I think I'm gonna need a new clutch handle, because I stripped the adjusting screw. Are the arrows on the top of the case supposed be aligned while the clutch lever is being pulled or not pulled? And yes of course i had everything back together and full up on fluids and had to drain them all again :shoothead: Quote
hollisatp Posted November 22, 2008 Report Posted November 22, 2008 The arrows are supposed to align when at rest. this is the zero setting when the clutch is engaged. set those to align, I believe it is done with the cover off and you adjust the philips screw in the middle of the clutch basket. Watch as you turn the screw to align the arrows on top of the case. Then you go to the lutch leverr adjustment..... Quote
quikshee Posted November 23, 2008 Author Report Posted November 23, 2008 When I tried to align the arrows by adjusting the screw it had to be to the point that there was no clutch pull, just kinda loose and floppy. Is that where adjusting the clutch handle that I stripped comes into play? Quote
