banshee909 Posted November 17, 2008 Report Posted November 17, 2008 so i was in the trails the other day bike was running excelent and then i went to go up a hill in the trail and the bike died thought i ran out of gas maybe put it on reserve still wouldnt start got towed all the way home thought it might have been the plugs pulled them out they were black so thats not a good thing im guessing i went and bought new ones gapped them correctly and installed still wont start i was wondering if their was anything i should check before i open it up to see whats going on in their anything stupid i might be over looking? it seems like theres compression when i kick it and the plugs were wet when i pulled them out so its getting gas? what could it be? please someone help me thanks in advance josh Quote
1996dragshee Posted November 17, 2008 Report Posted November 17, 2008 When you say you pulled the plugs and they were black,do you mean carbon black or oil black? If they're oil black you may have blew a a ring or two.Do a compression test and that will give you an idea of where to start.Just because it seems like there is compression when you kick it doesn't necasarilly mean you have compression, remember you're kicking over two cylinders not just one...good luck Quote
2001Stroker Posted November 17, 2008 Report Posted November 17, 2008 First off, make sure it's getting spark. Just pull a plug, put the wire on it, and put it up against the engine. Have someone else kick it, and see if it's sparking. It should be a blue spark. If it's orange or yellow, you have a different problem. Then check the compression with a gauge. Compression should be no less than 120ish. Take both plugs out, put the tester in either spark plug hole, hold the throttle wide open, and kick it until the tester stops moving up. Should be at least 15-20 kicks. If it's less than 120ish, time to rebuild the top end. And you said it's getting fuel. Too much, but it's getting it. The plugs should be chocolate brown. Black and wet is too rich. That might be a problem. Flooding or making it load up. If you have all 3 things, it should at least fire up. Do you have any mods done to it? Do you still have TORS? Quote

Do you still have TORS? well the reason i thought it was wet was cuz i was trying to start it for like 20 minutes so i figured there would be some gas in their i do have tors removed i have trinity single carb fmfs and its bored .80 over so if it needs a rebuild ill be in the market for some new jugs... i dont have a compression tester and ill have to try what ur saying about testing for a spark Quote
2001Stroker Posted November 17, 2008 Report Posted November 17, 2008 ok, yea that'll make 'em wet. Well, check those thing before you go ripping it apart. If you do need to rebuild, why don't you just re-sleeve the jugs that you have? Quote

If you do need to rebuild, why don't you just re-sleeve the jugs that you have? honestly didnt know you could do that how much does that run? my money supply is really short and i wanted to do a couple things to my car too and the fact that i lost my job and unemployment sucks is really not helping but i tryed the spark thingy i cant figure out if im doing it right i didnt see a spark but i also am having my dad pick up a compresion tester thing from my uncle on his way home ill check that all out and post after i do that or discover anything new thanks for your help Quote

98_shee Posted November 17, 2008 Report Posted November 17, 2008 Also make sure the flywheel didn't come loose. had it happen to me. Quote
banshee909 Posted November 18, 2008 Author Report Posted November 18, 2008 both plugs looked the same when i got them out too answer your question i gotta check everything out still Quote
AKheathen Posted November 18, 2008 Report Posted November 18, 2008 both plugs looked the same when i got them out too answer your question i gotta check everything out still so, you've rulled out fuel, compression, plugs and wires. you'll need an ohm meter and schematic and go through the electrical after you check your stator/ flywheel didn't come loose Quote
banshee909 Posted November 18, 2008 Author Report Posted November 18, 2008 so, you've rulled out fuel, compression, plugs and wires. you'll need an ohm meter and schematic and go through the electrical after you check your stator/ flywheel didn't come loose thanks dudes i figured out what was wrong please dont laugh but it was just the coil a wire fell off in the trail Quote
2001Stroker Posted November 19, 2008 Report Posted November 19, 2008 Spark is the first things we told you to check. :shoothead: Bet next time, you actually check the spark. Glad you got it fixed. Quote
dirtfreak Posted November 19, 2008 Report Posted November 19, 2008 also squeeze the connector together a bit or replace the connector where it plugs on to the coil, so it doesnt fall of again. Quote
