Tired of throwing money into this pig, It's killing me!!! Any and all comments and opinions whould be appriciated. Here is my story. I bought this 99 shee 2yrs. ago. It is a 4mm. It originally had lectron carbs, stock milled head,Full race port, T5 with cascade silencers. I have removed the lectrons, Installed 28 keihins, +7 timing, race gas. Carb change was to get more low end and less light switch. I had it dyno tuned by a local shop, They did some basic mods, Cleaned up the power curve etc... My biggest complaint was a spudder between 1/4 & 1/2 throttle. I'm a dune rider and occasionally drag for fun. Emphesis on duning. Sea level 45 to 80 degree temps. Same results, I've tried every jetting combo, narrowed down to needle, jjh and n65a the only way to clean the spudder is seting clip at the very top. Doesnt matter what needle, same result. So I talk to the shop that dynoed it, He questioned my port timing might be causing this issue. Since then I wasted a crank bearing, and fried the top end. I had the porting looked at by 2 people they both told me the same thing I decided to ditch the race ported jugs, bought stock jugs and had them mild or dune ported, Had the bottom end completly rebuilt by same person. After breaking it in as per builder, Guess what! Same problem! 45 pilots, jjh middle clip, 162 mains. The bike runs hard, but still spudders 1/4 to 1/2 throttle. I call builder, He thinks possible electrical issue, So I've replaced coil and wires with plug caps. no change. swapped stators, nothing! swapped cdi, nothing. Same results. I also checked every wire connector and wire in harness. cleaned all ground connections. I dont think its electrical. Builder reccommends stock carbs, says they are more forgiving. Tried them, same problem. I've also removed the cascade silencers, installed fmf silencers, thinking of trying different pipes. My thing is the money has dryed up! If I run the needle with clip in top position will it pop the top end? What the F---

ok that post is a mess.. for simplicity, just tell us exactly what youre running now. jetting specs, carbs, pipes, reeds, air filter, porting, temp and altitude.

 

also wanna know what fuel/oil mixture.

Sorry! Stock carbs, no tors , bored to 27mm. 330mains 27.5 pilots, n57 middle clip. White knuckle head, 180psi compression,dune port T5s, fmf silencers. sea level. klotz 40:1

what kinda sputtering between 1/4 and 1/2? does it feel like its getting too much gas? as you throttle up does the sputter come out of it?

Yes! it comes out of it or drop a gear. I don't know about to much gas.

why dont you try dropping the needle one clip..(take the clip up one notch) and see what happens. also, what are your air jets set at?

I've tried that. it gets slightly better as I raise the clip. It likes the top clip best!

ok well drop your main jet one size and leave the clip in the middle. see how that works out.

I've gone as lo as 158mains, should I try lower?

Try turning your timing back to +4 or even 0. I played hell setting up my 2 into 1 (took months) because my bike had a stator plate on it set to +8 and i or the previous owner didn't know it was there. i had the same studder issue from about 1/4 to 3/4 throttle and went threw 6 different needles. worth a shot

thought you said you have stock carbs on it now?? if so youre not running a 158 main in them.

I was referring to when I was running the 28 keihins. I just pulled the stock carbs off today, adjusted the timing to +2, This solved my problem.
