bansheejoel Posted October 6, 2008 Report Posted October 6, 2008 what are the effects of a crank that is not perfectly balanced? thinking about getting my crank trued but not sure if its needed. Quote
desertdeweller Posted October 6, 2008 Report Posted October 6, 2008 lots of things actually. start with vibration you will feel more of it in your hands through the bars and will cause some fatigue. If it is bad enough it could litteraly vibrate the bolts out of the engine. A fiend had his trued and welded but didn`t have it balanced. you could watch the bolts come loose in the case covers. so he ended up doing twice as much work pulling it apart a second time for ballancing. besides out of balance is harder on the bearings and will also make it loose some power because of that. dajogejr Posted October 6, 2008 Report Posted October 6, 2008 True and weld within spec is fine.... I've never seen a crank for one of these bikes "Balanced"...nor have I see a failure related to it not being balanced. I've seen plenty damaged from the webs coming apart from not being welded...
