  1. So, I picked up a banshee at storage auction. It's missing random bits and pieces.

I'm trying to figure out the best thing to do with the exhaust. I have the expansion chamber, mid pipe and silencer/spark arrester(hope that's the correct part names).

however, I'm missing the connecting hardware between the three. I found the clamps that go between the Expansion chamber and mid pipe.

What goes between the mid pipe and silencer? Someone tried to weld the two pieces together, as shown in the photo below(I knocked all the shit weld off and cleaned it up with a Dremel tool).

Can I simply squirt some RTV high temp between the two and use the correct fasteners?

Do I need a special gasket?

Should I just pony up the dough for the FMF mid pipe and silencer?

A little help for a noob is appreciated.

    Thanks my dudes and dude'ets

Ok wcatv's good...If it It was me, I would take the pipes off & inspect if it looks good lube & spin, repeat.

do a leak down test and compression test if all's visually good

Hey, It's all good! Cycled the pistons while looking in the exhaust ports. NO VISUAL DAMAGE! SMOOTH! I didn't have any two stroke, so I did the right thing and sprayed out the cylinder w/ dub 40 first and then dumped some 90-75w gear oil down the shoot. Wet compression test yielded 170+ psi. in both holes. Nice!

I need some help with various garbage I found.

Start with this, I looks like someone tried to weld up a gap here between the mid pipe and the can. WTF?

Here is a pic of the expansion chambers, mid pipe and can.

I think all I need is to clean all the shit weld up and buy the proper can for the mid pipe. Please advise!

Next Item, I have two black wires(one with a white stripe) that have been cut from the pack here.

Final item, where can I find a good set of rear knobby tires? I think a rim and tire combo would be the best. It's street, hard dirt here in baja, unless your partying the beach.

It's time. I have most of the day today to mess with it. I'll start the visual inspection and get some numbers on it. That way I can see what I'm working with before I drop 4 bills on carbs.

If you start over i'd go with 28 Keihin pwk, a cable & thumb throttle

I'm surprised about this a little. I totally figured, flat slide and twist throttle was going to be the recommendation.  I have little 2 stroke experience, but on a classic crotch rocket w/ carbs, flat slides are always preferred because on a four stroke they are way, way more snappy.

If you start over i'd go with 28 Keihin pwk, a cable & thumb throttle, longer carb cap threaded inserts & ask around, or look in jetting thread, for jets range to start with. From a reputable builder / shop. Tony is a stand up guy from everything ive heard or F.A.S.T., west coast atv, not sure if driveline sells carbs.

just not from ebay,BP or any of rays alias

Before you get to far, i'd do a compression test, pull the pipes & look at pistons ( try & see #'s and see what kinda shape they & bore are in) & post up a pick of the cylinders (@ the intake runner where the letters & symbol is) and search leak down on here & test that while pipes are off

Ok, Got it. Everyone likes that Keihin PWK in 28mm and a thumb throttle. That kit from WC ATV is around $400. Seems reasonable.

For the compression test. Should I do wet or dry? They told me it's been sitting for 6 years.

  6. Ok, my dudes

I took a closer look today after work. The bike IS setup for two carbs. I have a throttle cable.

The bike HAS one(1) Mikuni flat slide on it.

So what's the verdict? Do I get another flat slide to match it, or do I buy a new set of something else?

What would you do? also, can someone ID this carb for me?

No Joke, This shit is amazing. Of all the different brands, this is the best one. It's better than the Lucas. I use it for all types of stuff. When I build a new AR platform rifle I use this for the initial build and follow up with Lucas simi-synthetic ATF for CLP.
