  1. Where I live is at about 4500ft. The hills around the city range from 6500-9000. And temp can be 100 in town to 60 in the mountains. So yeah pretty drastic. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. I cleaned the carbs. Can't see any visible wear on the needle or seat. I adjusted the float level to 16mm which is what I found online for that carb and it appears about right for the angle. I haven't reinstalled and tried yet. Plan to this weekend. It isn't that carbs are difficult it just gets old screwing with them. Hot? Pull em and change jets. Cold? Change again. Going up a hill? Change em. Going down? Change em. Fuel injection is a superior product. Not that I'm afraid of carbs. I work on street bikes quite a bit so I'm use to dealing with the compromises of carburation. Doesn't mean I like it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. It ran sort of when I picked it up. Just pouring fuel everywhere. I rode it up and down his block to see it went through the gears. Just felt like a bike that was jetted way wrong that was overflowing. So it probably has adequate compression, but we will see. I'll try and rent a gauge and check it tomorrow or Friday after work. What is standard for these things? And what is squish? I've seen that mentioned multiple times, but have no idea what it is. The kits I ordered were just Keihin jet kits with a large range of pilots and mains. No needles in them. I'm not sure what needle is on the slide now. Are these slotted/adjustable? Or fixed and you have to shim? Frankly, when I started hunting for a quad, I wanted a raptor 700r for the fuel injection and the reverse. Still do honestly. I love riding two stroke dirtbikes, but I'm so damn tired of playing with carbs. Fuel injection is just so much easier. I'm screwing with the damn new carbs on the pile of shit 660 raptor I bought too.
  4. Can you elaborate on the domes? Judging by the stamp I'm guessing these are 18cc. No idea if they are trinity. 18cc domes - does that mean race gas? Seems everything I read about pump gas setups are 20 or 21. Everyone saying 18-19 is race gas unless you're at high elevation. Which I am, but I'm not sure how that works. Another fella that I looked at his bike just got back to me this morning. Lives an hour away. Got a rebuilt banshee that runs good but needs a seat for $1900. Now I really feel like I ate it on this one. I'm just pissed about getting taken. I know it is an okay deal. But I didn't buy it because it was okay. I thought I was getting a really good deal on something that just needed some carb tuning and a good clean. The dude let me drive 7 hours to pick up this pile of crap and swore up and down he was positive on everything being good parts and what he told me. I could have bought another banshee that needed a grip of work for a lot less here. I looked at one in town here that was in great shape and ran excellent for $2700 but it was stock. I went after this one because it was supposed to be better. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Talking to myself here for anyone who reads in later. I ordered a couple "kits" with jets for the carbs so I've got room to play with them. I've decided to try and clean up and straighten the K&N filters that were on there already to not bleed any more money into this thing since it isn't what I was hoping for in the first place. Probably just going to get it going and get rid of it. The whole thing has left me with a sour taste in my mouth. Parts won't be in until mid week and I'll be out of town, so I'll be working on it again next weekend unfortunately.
  6. Carbs are keihin pwk 70ra3 35mm. Need to figure out what size jets to order. I'm at about 5000' elevation. Currently has 142 main and 52 pilot. Also need to order filters since those others were in such nice shape lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Sorry for the doubles on the pictures. Not sure how that happened Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Alright head pulled and things measured. Appears to be a 420 short rod? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. I've done a little Google work. Seen nothing but bad about trinity except for the stage 4 head so I guess that's disconcerting and good at the same time. The carbs appear to be 35mm not 38mm. I didn't see a part number on the radiator to reference for the titanium bit but it does have Toomey stickers on it so I'm guessing it is not stock. Bar parts and levers seem decent. I guess I probably still need to pull the head and see what size bore it has for tuning purposes? A arms do appear to be 2 over so I guess I'll need to get proper shocks since the front end is leaning pretty good. Guessing that means that one is blown. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Alright I haven't got in touch with the dude but I had about an hour after work so I took it apart a bit to get some more pictures. Most pics are self explanatory. The cylinder in my hand is one of the box parts. Carbs are much larger than the ones in the box. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. I can't say why anything was done. I doubt paint is due to rust as it came from the southwest where rust isn't really a thing. If the dude lied about one thing he probably lied about all of it. So I'm sort of assuming I've got a mostly stock banshee in shit condition for too much money. I gave $2500 for it. Seemed reasonable had it been what he said but probably way overpriced for what I actually got. I'll be back home tonight but won't be able to do anything to it until the weekend. Maybe get some better pictures tomorrow if I make it home before the sun goes down. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. I can't say what anything is since I don't know what I'm looking at. I had to Google reeds. I see those are vforce. I'm really out of my element here. I'll get it figured out well enough to fix my screw up in buying this thing with your help though. So thanks guys. I'll be back in town late Wednesday night. I will see if I can get some better pictures, and maybe some more info on anything stamped with a part number. I won't have any time to open anything up until the weekend at the earliest. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. I'm not arguing with you. I legit know nothing about these. Which makes me purchasing this like this even more stupid on my part. I guess I should touch base with the guy I got it from. He's already got my cash so no harm in telling me the truth about what it actually is now. He gave me a box of parts that had cylinders in it that he said were what he pulled off the bike and they were significantly smaller than what is on the bike so I believed him. Guess I should have been wise enough to research before jumping in with both feet. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Well shit. I can barely see the cylinders but I'm not the expert so I'll assume you're right and do some more research. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Alright got the app. Been on forums for years and always dodged tapatalk but I'll give it a run. I'm out of town for work all week but I had some pictures taken for me so I could upload them for you guys. She didn't know what exactly to take pictures of but gave it a shot. I won't have time to work on the bike until the weekend at the earliest so I can't give info on the carbs yet. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. To start - I have a compulsive buying problem. I'm also long winded, so please bear with my ramblings. I had an itch this summer for some dirt toys. I went from owning nothing two months ago to having 2 dirtbikes and 3 quads in the driveway as of today. I'm cheap so I buy used. I sometimes buy projects, because in general I have the skills and tools to fix things. All I need is more time and money... Yesterday, I picked up a banshee I agreed to buy that was in another state, because late at night I make commitments I probably shouldn't. It is like old women with the QVC network, but far worse. The bike - 1996 Banshee. Ugly with bad spray paint work. The mods (as I've been told) - 421 cub kit, cool heads, 38mm carbs, Titanium radiator, t5 toomey pipes, geared to a 3.38 ratio, and some suspension/steering mods plus little bits and pieces. The primary problems - Doesn't run worth a damn. Carbs are flooding severely. Will start sometimes if I fill the bowl and then kick it a few times and it'll run until it runs out of fuel, but doesn't run worth a damn. So I'm aware I need to pull and clean carbs. Surely I will need to figure out jetting. I'm used to working on Harleys, so not totally unfamiliar with carbs, but I've never worked on a Banshee. Nor have I ever ridden a banshee so I have nothing to compare it with to know it is right or wrong that is apples to apples. I've got a 2013 yfz450 that runs good. And a raptor 660 project too because apparently I'm a glutton for punishment. So did I basically dig myself a giant hole before starting? Should I just turn around and sell this thing or is it worth diving into someone else's project?
