I figured an easy way to power the system, trail tech responded to my question regarding power to the system through the coil, switch or any other locations, really not possible without a voltage regulator, fuses, or just about anything else I've read all over including 12v battery conversions. So easiest way I found is this. The system needs 12v or so to operate, so being into Rc cars as well I purchased a terengy 12v NIMH battery pack, small, compact, easy to mount basically anywhere. I already had the wall charger, but the actual battery in the Voyager can be charged with my Rc charger quickly with an adapter I built. I put deans plugs on the battery pack, and one end of the power wire. Ran the power wire from the front to just behind the air box, my bike doesn't have a coolant bottle behind the box, and it gives me easy access to the battery. I used a very small padded box and mounted it on top of the grommets where the over flow bottle sat. Charged the battery, plugged it in, perfect. I basically turned the system to full on, no delays, no auto shut off to conserve power and ran the bike. Everything works, I even let it sit for days in on mode to see how long it would last, after 2 days it switched over to internal battery power, good enough. Charging is simple, set my charger to NIMH settings, charges the battery in about 10 minutes or so, also recharges the internal battery and done. I thought about mounting a small 12v 1 or 2s hard case lipo but NIMH batteries are more stable, easier to charge, store, and take abuse without risk of puffing, so for now, this seems to work. You can mount the battery pretty much anywhere you want, there are numerous charging options, I just wanted a rear location, and already had peak charger's with options to charge any battery from nicd to lipo batteries, peaked, balanced with maintenance functions, I actually used a x6 from hobby people we have as a back up, it's small, cheap and runs off either AC or DC power with a ton of options, and they're cheap, like 20 dollars without an AC adapter, which is just a laptop power supply of using it inside.

Do the leak down, seems to be a common issue, and message or ask Larry, he did mine at a affordable price, awesome knowledge, definitely knows a Banshee motor, mine wasn't fine tuned, and started first kick, once a made his recommendations, it's spot on and runs period. Good guy

I just want the best location for external power, ideally the handle bar kill, which wire, color and can it be grounded there too? I have no use for wheel sensors or temp sensors on a bike that runs a basically stock motor with the money put into the chassis.

Banshee barn find help with 2 known issues

Just sent you a message, I'm gonna dump the snorkel, which I intended on doing, see where it is, if it's still not right, I'll remove the lid, should be ok with the pro design filter and adaptor, if it's still not enough, I'll throw the lid on and out on the air screws an 8th and go from there, seems rich off throttle to just below half or a little less so I'll lean it a tad if increasing the air flow doesn't make the difference, should be fairly simple. -
We are planning some trips up North while I have time, so I decided to pull the trigger and purchase a Trail tech Voyager, so I ordered the one specific to fit a Banshee, anyone have experience with one, I suppose the main questions I have are all the options, temp sensor, wheel magnet hook up, and power. I don't know if I really need all the included bs hooked up, more interested in the easiest and best way to run it to power unless someone has actually hooked up all the features that it has without junking up a bunch of wires, the harness and everything else, and what I would actually need to just run it for trails, besides obviously power and the GPS maps which I already loaded all I'll need around Michigan. Thanks for any input

Banshee barn find help with 2 known issues
motoman011 replied to motoman011's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Mains were 200 or 210, I pulled one just to check, it's a slight issue, I believe it's not lean enough on the air screws so I'm gonna back out an 8th and go from there, very slight issue, if they were 240 it would fall flat all over without pipes, it's just a tiny throttle response issue about a quarter to mid, I may adjust needle clip positions if air screw adjustment doesn't clean it up. -

I'm gonna try out slightly on air screws, seems like that's the symptom, haven't been feeling the best, but in the next few days I'll try that, seems to be starved for flow slightly, it's only off slightly, not a big issue, I'm also going to change plugs, gap them in case they are the issue. -
Banshee barn find help with 2 known issues

Got about 8 gallons of fuel through the quad, starts perfect, no leaks, heat issues or anything else. Idle is a tad low, but I believe needs some small adjustments, it doesn't want to clean itself up when I ride through the local trails, and not until I'm on it pretty good, even then, it's not making the power I know it should until into 5th gear and all the way through 6th. John mentioned a low end bog, it's sort of like that, but more of a what I believe to be a hesitation. I'm thinking it needs air screw adjustments, plugs are a tad dark, I'm running Maxima super M at a 32:1 ratio. Any suggestions on throwing a screwdriver on the air screws would be greatly appreciated, it's not off much, just a tad, haven't changed the plugs yet either, they look fine, and those are NGK B8's. Thanks -

Done, installed the Elka stage 4 long travel shocks and a arms today, added the durablue axle and Elka long travel rear shock, round carrier swingarm is the shit for chain adjustment for sure, as far as handling, thanks to MCR suspension over the years for a spot on job, made short runs today, took the same double, and could have sat down easy, it's right, still doesn't handle like my lagers protrax 250r, but considering that's a swear word on here, and I'm running a stock chassis, and Johns motor work,Lakes machine work, zero complaints, one summer and it's for sale, possibility auction to benefit my 2 younger ones, if I can ride next year, it'll have electric start, and reverse, but no auto trans without a clutch, if I have to go that way with racks, bury me. Thanks guys -

Once I break it in and complete setting it up I sure will. I'm really happy with the way it worked out, my little guy is 9, he was really upset when I got sick, but he didn't say a word when we got rid of the quads we had because during the 3 year process of them figuring me out, we basically lost our ass. He goes to the doctors with me, understands what is going on and he does real well with it. He saw me take an unexpected bus ride late to the hospital a little over a month ago, but he held it together. But I will tell you, when I found a spotless Polaris predator 90 for him, it's as clean as the Banshee, he cried, and he was smiling and tearing up yesterday when we were out. I'm 43, and this is my last build, and maybe ride, but yesterday was by far one of the best days I've had in YEARS easy. And I really didn't feel the best, good thing John has that thing spot on,it starts first kick, I didn't even choke it. We'll have a good time for sure, it's something he loves to do. He's been on a crf450 or a quad with me since he was a little over 2, and on his own since 4, so this is seriously positive all the way around for sure. -

Everything is perfect, couple short rides yesterday, heat cycle purposes, 10 miles on back roads today, and 30 easy minutes on practice track today, cleared 60ft double 3rd gear, suspension and axle and arms and I'll see if it'll clear the 120 ft table and triple, then we'll see what breaks it or me. Your awesome John thank you very much -

I just want to add a reply, update to the project. The quad is being picked up today, John is an EXCELLENT GUY and and excellent wrench, his communication is second to none, his attention to detail is second to none, and if anybody in the Michigan or surrounding areas needs advise, work, or whatever, I highly recommend him. He takes the time to do things right, has great attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and is just a all around good guy to just shoot the shit with. Should be completely finished today, bumper, pro peg nerfs, a arms swingarm, elka long travel suspension, vipers and a host or other small things, I will post pictures when complete. I may have a shortened life expectancy but my excitement along with my boys, wife and friends are priceless. Probably not a person I didn't grow up with, raced with, rode with back so far that they still came with 3 wheels that isn't going to be involved in finishing it today and be riding tomorrow as much as possible. I would also like to thank everyone who has responded to my questions, concerns and for advise, it was and is very much appreciated, may be my last ride, but I can't say that through my career in racing, riding even in the local pits in the area that this isn't gonna mean the most for sure. Again, thank you to John, his family, Lakes Power sports z and everyone. I'm already smiling and I have a long drive there and back before we finish the rest. Bryan and family -
Complete Banshee motor rebuild, break in questions
motoman011 replied to motoman011's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Do I get to break it in and ride it first? Actually the guy who is doing the motor will get the bike if he so chooses when I'm done, if he doesn't want it, then I decide what direction to go. -
Complete Banshee motor rebuild, break in questions
motoman011 replied to motoman011's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
The 22 year old in into old school trikes, lots of history up where I'm from, he's been working on a couple of 200x's all winter, I had a few, he had my pictures. His goal was a mint 85 or 86 350x, I had each of those also. So I pulled some strings and picked up an all original 85 350x from a guy I grew up riding with. It also has been sitting but properly. All factory right down to tires, all stickers, grips and tool box. Mud flap is still there and not cracked. He knows my health situation, time and my son, so we just went Friday, uncovered it, and I handed him 800 for it, with original papers and dealership paperwork as he was the original owner. One kick and it fires right up. I told him I'd buy him something... What he wanted, and it is cool, just a beast, I rode it today through our old trails and down an old air port we rode on as kids, I gotta say, did make me smile. But he's in his glory so dad didn't get it for long for sure, besides, I didn't wanna break it. -

Complete Banshee motor rebuild, break in questions

Beating it like that got me lots of trophies over the years on my laegar protrax 250r, along with lots of broken bones, surgeries, and some metal hardware. Buy thanks, if needed I can still hang and ride like that not sure my neurologist would be impressed but with probably 2 years left to ride I may just give it a try -
In completing my barn find low hour bike, as I figured the motor upper and lower will be replaced cranks seals, bearings and top end, not sure on bore, but probably .010 over tops, machine shop is using Weisco pistons. My questions are.. Motor is stock, carbs, pipes ect, I run Maxima super M normally 32:1, and Maxima crank case oils. Any suggestions on changing anything, how to break the engine in properly, and hour intervals before I can actually run the bike normally and up north as we plan. Everyone has an opinion, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

Banshee barn find help with 2 known issues
motoman011 replied to motoman011's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
I would like to personally thank John, goes or posts under the name Larry's Shed. He has been great to deal with, communicate with and the Banshee has been taken there. My health is not getting better but I hope to get a small portion of summer and fall with my little guy to create some much needed memories since we rode together daily since the time he was smal enough to ride around the yard with me until we we're forced to sell his race quad a little over 2 years ago and our complete collection of bikes which everyone in the family did together. Hopefully due to the limited hours and in looking at the cleanliness of the machine and inside the stator cover fluids...ect it's a top end and some adjustments. Then as I can no longer ride the bike will be given/donated back to John or someone in his family because of what he is doing... Helping and giving me a little opportunity to get unplugged with my son for what it is. Anyone who needs input, or just a general all around great guy for advise, look no further than John... Nothing short or a stand up guy ... Kinda a god send to my son and I. Thank you to the rest of you also for the responses and advise it means more than you know. Bryan and Darrin -
Banshee barn find help with 2 known issues

Exactly needs to turn to run a leak down test, spark test and no there was no spark when I looked at it a few years back. Stator or tors? But my guess is tors unit with as little as hours as it had on it when it lost spark and developed an issue. -

motoman011 replied to motoman011's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
I looked through the airbox, the complete wiring harness, plugs, and everything I could see with the plastic off, looked inside the airbox, and everywhere I could see, no evidence of chewing or rodents as of yet. Like I said the quad still shows signs of chalk marks on the tires, all stickers are in tact, and there is not even paint worn off the a arms or bumper, looks almost showroom new. I know the fluids will need changing, but the crank case oil and radiator fluid looked surprisingly clean. I'm sure the cylinders are rusted up, hopefully putting some oil down them and some Teflon rust inhibitor will free them up, then I'll pull the pipes and clean them out of excess oil and whatever else I find. I'm looking for a shop today that will pull the top end apart and clean and sync the carbs and clean them. I did turn both and pull the bowls, they again are surprisingly clean. It was at my house probably 5 or 6 years back when the spark issue happened, but I didn't put a ton of time into the issue, he showed little or no interest in the quad let alone if it ran or not. But yeah main issue is getting the pistons freed up so I can start with the tors unit, I'm almost positive that's where it's at, but hard to do anything with the probable piston issue. Is there an easier way to free up the pistons? Something else I can spray or add to help get it to roll over? That's really my only concern. I remember running a compression test on it when it quit and both cylinders were at about 130 or so on the tester, it didn't have but probably 10 or 15 hours on it tops when it quit. But obviously it'll need a rebuild due to the rust unless someone can enlighten me otherwise. -

motoman011 replied to motoman011's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Yeah I am time crunch is simply health and when it starts to decline, it doesn't stop, I could probably chase the spark issue but impossible with what I believe the pistons being locked, I'll leave it sit for a few days and see what happens. And wait for some advise if someone has some. -
I have a friend who's brother purchased a banshee, I believe it's an 01 to 03, it's white with black and red seat, black tank cover if that helps. Anyway, I looked at the quad years ago, he rode it very little, too fast for him and it developed a spark issue. When we purchased it, he had a vforce reed cage and a bottle behind the carbs from the dealer, only mods I know of. After years of getting on him, he gave the quad to me. It's all original, with the exception of the mods listed above right down to all the stickers, tires, chain and sprockets, I mean everything, it was filthy from sitting half covered in a barn on blocks, but I washed it up, spent 5 hours cleaning and everything shines like new. Issues are first, his spark problem. After reading, probably the tors system, I didn't look at that much, radiator and fluids are surprisingly clean, and I pulled the stator cover, looks like new inside, my guess is the quad has maybe 15 total hours on it. Second issue, I can't chase the spark issue down because from sitting, it's locked, my guess is pistons, so I put some small bottles of 2 stroke oil down the spark plug holes and some wd40 Teflon rust inhibitor and I'm gonna let it sit. My questions are as follows Is there a better way to try to free up the motor? Should I take it to a shop and pull it apart? I live in Michigan, anyone with an idea where I can take it in the state would be great. Is it worth fixing? Complete rebuild cost? I want to keep it stock period Anything else I should be looking for in the problems area? I bought the bike because a few years back my son and I rode, but I developed a neurological nervous system disease, it's not going to go away, and I have gotten him a quad to replace the one we sold due to having to leave my job after 20 years. I just looking to take the probably 2 years I have good left and create some smiles, he loved riding with me, and for the price, I can't beat the bike, after a good cleaning and polishing everything up, it looks new, you can actually see the chalk marks on the front tires still. So any help to chase the spark down, ideas on the motor, and anything else would be greatly appreciated, everything else looks great, brakes, shocks, Trans shifts, nothing is froze up, just the 2 issues I mentioned. I did mess with it a few years back and the motor was free and I know they did about a year or so back but it's been sitting since I would say to be safe 2006 or so. I don't have an Internet connection unless I hit the library or McDonald's or open wifi, so I would be open to calls, or text messages at 810 937 6202 9f someone is willing to help me, I don't have a lot of time to try to get this together and going, I'm afraid I'm on a time schedule unfortunately and it's getting nice, and I'm looking one nice day at a time with him about the best I can manage at this point. Thank you for any help anyone can provide. Trust me, his smiles mean EVERYTHING to me at this point.
