  1. Thanks for all your suggestions guys. next month I am going to get the tors delete and 20cc domes and forward the timing to +4. I am a disabled vet so money is hard to come by. in the future I plant to get some Toomey t5s and vforce reeds. but before the pipes and reeds I desperately need rear tires. if that stuff doesnt solve my problems and allow me to run pump gas I will most likely rebuild the other engine I have but one the right cylinder and head dome is severly damaged. does anyone have any suggestions on an affordable stock size trail tire. I live in N.C. so I only trail ride.
  2. My father and I have actually tried adjusting the timing a few times to see if it would help. I just ended up setting the timing back to 0. Honestly I think I have figured out the problem I just don't have the money to fix it right now. I think the wide open throttle thing has malfunctioned and since it has stock jets and everything that's done to the motor its just not getting enough gas to start initially or to idle. That's why it runs spectacularly in my opinion when you push it and get it started. So as long as you are giving it some throttle it has no problems and runs like a top. Also it I will run the timing to +4 and see how that works out after I get the carb. conversion kit with new plugs. But thank you very much on your input. I would post the pics but the bike is in storage at the moment so I can't. Also I got my identity stolen and all my money was taken from my accounts so it will prolly be over a month before I can even try anything due to having no money all working with the authorities to get my money back.
  3. How would that be felt in the engine? I don't have a clue.the kicker kicks like any other 2stroke I have kicked. But when it is running and I'm riding it, it runs great. The only sound I hear while Riding it is the kick starter rattling. Otherwise no complaints except I don't have the awesome sound of after market pipes. I want to put reeds and a few other things on it but if I can't figure this out then I am just going to save and buy a new stock engine
  4. I'm not the right person to ask but it just seems to me that an airbox with the snorkel that comes on them would be best for water. But I have seen a few mods that say don't run the top of the box but I cross some water from time to time so I run a K&N filter with the full box myself. But like I said I'm not one to ask. Good luck
  5. Somewhat. I'm not great but I can do lower level things. But I have much to learn and I have no experience with 2 strokes or carbs. I'm hopeing its that wide open throttle thing. I forget what its called since I only read about it on here this morning and watched a YouTube video on how to change it. But I don't personally know anyone who has or has even rode a banshee other than a junk one that my dad acquired for $25 from someone he met a few years ago at the gas station.
  6. Well since I got the bike from the original owner who didn't even know to mix oil with the fuel and blew the first engine and the original plastics were in almost show room condition (red and yellow). I'm certain they didn't change the jets. I got the bike for fixing their minivan for them. But stranger things have happend. Like I said it still has the stock tires on it.
  7. It's a 1996 with 2006 black SE plastics. Its completely black except the motor and the springs. I don't have any pics of the bike as its at my fathers house at the moment where I store it so I can't take a pic right now or read the jets. The jets are stock, so I guess they are whatever Yamaha put in them in 1996. Everything as far as running is completely stock except the motor. And I am at 200ft above sea level. The engine was bored 80 over, Paul turner head with 18cc domes, adjustable stator plate, boost bottle, K&N filter, lid and snorkel is on the air box where as I half to ride through water sometimes. Other than that the bike is bone stock. I believe it even has stock tires still on it.
  8. also as far s putting up with the problem for 10 years I was in the military and stationed out of the country for most of my time so I only got to ride it around once every two years but now since I am out I wanna ride but its so tedious and expensive for 115 octaine these days so I am looking to fix that.
  9. it turns over but doesn't sound like its fireing. I am sure its getting fire. it dies when you try to let it idle but when its running it runs great. it still has that mess with the carbs on it. I am going to buy the bypass kit soon. I realize that its a weird set up but I am on a fixed income and cant really afford to buy more parts most of the time. honestly I am not sure what the timing is set to at the moment but most likely its on 0. the flywheel key looks good as of the last time I looked and haven't rode it since. on the first of next month I am going to buy some 21cc domes and the carb kit to install idle screws. I only paid 700 bucks for the motor from someone in California and they told me it was a sand dune racing motor.it was far cheaper than rebuilding the blown motor it came with so I bought it but I had no idea what a headache running race gas is. As long as you are giving it gas or feathering the throttle I cant complain at all as it is the fastest four wheeler I have rode. then the month after that I am going to buy a jet kit and save for some Toomey t5's. then maybe after that some vforce 4's. this is all the info I know of the bike that hasn't already been listed. sorry I cant be of more help but I cant get any of the two motorcycle shops semi near me refuse to work on banshees for one reason or the other so I turned to the internet and found you guys and I stayed up all night reading this site. I don't have a compression testor but I ill find someone who does but I don't feel that's the problem as it runs like a cat with its tail on fire when riding. as far as reeds I will half to look but im not able to do that at the moment. thank you all for the advice and I will attempt to check all that is suggested.
  10. may be it was the riders fault but I did beat him 3 times. im not really trying to b.s. around thought. I don't really know anybody, I was just hoping for some advice on the not starting or idling part from people who know im tired of being pushed off evry time I wanna ride. But apparently I don't know enough about my motor to be of any help to anyone. thanks for the input though.
  11. ok thank you. but as far as I know that is all of the mods. that was all that was listed when I bought the engine. The I applied all of the stock parts that I already owned. It has had this problem since 2005 but everywhere I take it near me refuses to work on it so I got despirate and I found this sight. I cleaned the carbs yesterday and learned about which bowl goes to which carb just a few hours ago so I checked that part and I also checked the choke tube because I saw that as someone else problem. but all input is appreciated. I am so tired of this problem I am debating on just buying a new domes because I want to run on pump gas. but I don't think its a motor problem.
  12. well its is a lot faster than the cr 250s I have raced. Sorry if fast to me is slow to you. no sir that doesn't work. I believe the carbs need jetting but I don't understand why it runs so well other than start and idle. I am currently saving for some pipes but im poor.
