  1. After talking to some people, I think I'm going to pull the head and make sure the top end looks good and there aren't any pieces still in there and that the rings aren't sticking. It seems like one of the big advantages of the carbon fiber petals is that they are designed to not harm the cylinder if they go through. Maybe this summer when I have time, I'll look at the bottom end.
  2. My banshee has the old style V-force reed valves (i think they are the original or 2's, still has carbon fiber petals) and this weekend at the dunes, one of the petals completely broke off. The engine still ran at mid-low rpms so I got it back to camp. I'm ordering new reeds, but I'm wondering if I should do I top end on it since the petal went through the engine? I was first going to do a compression check and was thinking of taking the intake/exhaust pipes off and pull the plug to take a look at the bore, pistons, and rings to see if they are damaged or scratched up. I did some searching and couldn't really find any info on this. Is it common if the reed breaks for it to just go straight through the cylinder, sit in the cylinder for a bit and cause damage, sit in the crank case or a bit of all of that? Any one have any experience with this? Thanks!
  3. I did not pull the motor for the top end, made sure the on/off switch was in the on position as well as the key. Tether switch is installed. As far as I could tell, all connections between CDI unit, coil, and stator looked secure with the coil plugs being the most suspect of all of them, but still seemed connected. I was going to grab an ohm meter from work today and try to check connections for continuity, is there specific locations I should check?
  4. Everything was working great electrically when I started my top end rebuild a bit ago. Finally got everything back together and went to start break in on the new pistons and it wouldn't fire up. Pulled out the plugs (new B8ES, properly gapped) and I don't have spark. I don't suspect any specific parts since everything was working great when I shut it down last, so that would leave wiring and connectors as likely sources. Any ideas on where to start or best course of action/checklist to diagnose this problem? Couple other notes: The bike has a rewound stator and TORS eliminated. Thanks!
  5. I've got my spare banshee listed on San Diego Craigslist (http://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/snw/4775758452.html). Pics available at craigslist link. Details: This is a 2002 Yamaha Banshee that has been well maintained. Asking $2400, cash only. Engine is basically stock, had some port cleanup work done to it. Starts on first kick and runs strong. Ready to ride, just in time for desert season! Registered through June 2016. Pros: - K&N intake - FMF fatty exhaust - AC Racing swingarm skid plate - AC Racing Nerf Bars - Extra Large Billet thumb throttle (helps a lot with arm pump) - TORS removal kit - Intake Boost Bottle - 6 pack rack - Rear brake/disc only have ~3 rides on them - Chain/sprockets only have ~3 rides on them - Good Compression - Dirt wheels and Paddles mounted on Douglas rims - Coolant system just flushed - Trans oil replaced - Carbs just rebuilt/cleaned Cons: - Rear brake light wires are broke at the plug
  6. I've had my 2002 banshee for about 9 months now and the suspension is in dire need of refreshing. I've already purchased some used rebuilt/revalved Elka Stage 3's for the front and I'm trying to decide what to do with the rear. I would say I'm an intermediate rider with most riding done in the dunes (I'm in SoCal). The rear isn't terrible but isn't as fresh as I would like it. I came across an opprotunity to buy a used rebuilt/revalved Elka Stage 3 (from the same guy) for $420 but that is stretching my budget. My other options I see is to stick with what I have, get my stock shock reworked somewhere, or keep looking. I was hoping to get some opinions from the Banshee community to see what you would do. If you think I should rework the stocker, any recommendations for shops that do this (particularly in SoCal)? Thanks for any input!
