2001 Banshee shut off randomly and won't start now?
bansheechas replied to bansheechas's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
So I got it back together and unplugged the tors, still no luck. Still not getting spark. I checked for grounds and I only found one. It was good. The tors is unplugged now all the wiring seems to be solid and connected tightly. Can the vitos kill switch go bad? How can i test the ignition? Could the stator be bad as well? what are some other things that cause no spark and Ill check them. Thanks I checked it both ways but to be sure, which wire goes on which plug? -

on a more recent inspection i found out that the tors is still connected. I did some research on this and this seems like it is the culprit. I found a thread on how to delete this and will do it tomorrow and let you guys know the results. Could the tors starting to malfunction cause the quad not to idle? About two weeks ago, it would idle then after riding it pretty hard one day it didn't want to start so i choked it and it started right up. from then on it never idled and it got worse and now this happened. Does this sound like a failing tors? -

Im going to check over it again in better light. Do the ignitions go out frequently, mine looks oem. Also do stators ever go bad? like the title says its a 2001 and the stator and ignition look original. it has a aftermarket vitos kill switch as well, ill check that for any issues. thanks for all the help -

just checked it, no spark. I ran through the wires and didn't see anything that stood out. I am going to go through it really closely and order a ignition. The tors box isn't hooked up so ill go through them then get back -

ill go through the wiring wheres the coil at ill check it. is it the thing that the plug wires are coming from if your following them back up from the plugs themselves? it seemed like it was flooding out getting no spark when it shut off -

lol yeah i made sure of all of that because i have done that before. I got it all apart, took the carb all apart, it looked pretty much brand new, I sprayed carb cleaner on everything in it anyways. I think its a spark thing honestly. The reeds looked fine, there were no cracks or anything but I have never taken a banshee apart so I'm not too sure what I'm looking for. The pistons looked fine along with the piston sleeves. I kicked it over slowly and everything seemed to by working correctly. It got stuck in gear randomly a couple days ago if that makes any difference. I think its a spark issue because when i gave it throttle when it would only idle it just sounded like it got flooded out. Im pretty sure it is either a head gasket or spark issue. But the main thing is I'm not a expert so what should I be looking for? Im about to pull the head and see what the head gasket looks like. Is there anything special when taking the head off or is it pretty much right there the bolts and water pump hoses? thanks for the help here is some pics if they help http://i959.photobucket.com/albums/ae74/clutchshift/cd56cec4.jpg http://i959.photobucket.com/albums/ae74/clutchshift/b4d0fbca.jpg http://i959.photobucket.com/albums/ae74/clutchshift/d687ca4c.jpg http://i959.photobucket.com/albums/ae74/clutchshift/b06dc98b.jpg http://i959.photobucket.com/albums/ae74/clutchshift/29cc514c.jpg http://i959.photobucket.com/albums/ae74/clutchshift/9aef0a93.jpg -
2001 Banshee shut off randomly and won't start now?
bansheechas replied to bansheechas's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Im not sure but I have a compression tester but i have a cool head and domes so the standard 14mm long reach won't fit. I was going to trade for a really nice mustang today but pretty much I'm screwed? -
I was riding my quad around the yard and it was running fine. I then came to a stop and it died. I tried to kick it and it wouldn't start. I choked it and it started, before it died It was running fine then just shut off, it would start and barley idle then under any throttle would die and it won't start now at all. I put new plugs in it but i forgot which plug wire goes on which plug and I tried it both ways and it didn't start. I need help asap please if you need any other info or details about the quad ill let you know I'm not sure what you'd need to know about it. thanks

So I got it all pulled apart, seems as if my clutch was out of adjustment. That video was very helpful. I appreciate all the help! Cant wait to get riding again, Im just glad she is ready for the snow......

Alrighty I have all day tomorrow to pull the cover and check it out. Ill get pictures up too. I have my paycheck but with me being in school its not much so I want to make sure I have money to replace the correct part if needed. Thanks for the help

That video is very helpful. I noticed my clutch starts to get pressure when the two little arrows on the cable lever arm thing and crankcase are lined up when the "slack" is pulled. So when the lever is all the way out, the arrows don't line up. When you pull the lever there's about 3-4 inches of "free play" in the lever then right when the arrows line up, the clutch gets pressure and will pull. So my question is, to me it seems like the clutch is adjusted, the cable is stretched? Correct me if I'm wrong i got my fluidsdraindd ready to pull the cover, just watched the video and noticed that
-
How do you adjust it at the case? on the arm? Ill take a look at it i should get it but i adjusted it all the way tight at the lever and it didn't seem to help much.
-
I was riding around the yard today and after I was done riding, I noticed the clutch was really easy to pull in, it has about 1 inch of free travel before there is any kind of resistance. Also the clutch wasn't engaging. I was fine when i was riding it, even felt like it grabbed pretty good and didn't have any travel then. I am not sure I am pulling the clutch cover friday when I'm off school and ill get pictures up here. Also I know the cable isn't stretched because it pullies the little swing thing (sorry i don't know what things are called yet) on top of the transmission more forward stator side. I just changed the oil and put 1500 cm3 of DEX/MERC ford atf in it if that effected the clutch in any way. Any input would be appreciated thanks

This kid I know just got a 450 that he said was fully built, it looked confusing and not fully built but it has bolt ons. I've been trying to get him to run me for about a month now and he won't. When I do I'll get video, my bike is stock crank but fully ported and what not so we will see what happens

I've been wanting to ride here for a while but don't want to go by myself haha. Ill try to make it out sunday cause thats when Im off school and meet some new faces. I guess just look for a group of banshee riders? lol -
I live in Cinci Ohio. The starting issue has gone away. It sat for a while so I guess that is the culprit of that. Idk clutch side from stator side I'm banshee retarded. It's making a chatter on the right side of it if your sitting on it. When you pull the clutch in it goes away. I dont want to take it to a shop I ment shop/service manual sorry. I read about another guy having a chatter and he diagnosed it as worn clutch basket bushings other people have told me I have a busted clutch spring. So I'm not sure, bike doesn't seem to have any performance issues with the sound I just don't want it to lead to other premature ware/damage. I have a clymers manual and wheel spacers in the mail so ill read through the manual and tear it down accordingly.
-
Took the bike out around the neighbor hood, started first kick I guess letting it sit makes them not want to start. But at operating temp it doesn't like to idle all the time. Not sure though? The noise was still there it sounds like it was coming from both sideband there was a small vibration over what im guessing is the water pump cover like when you touch it. Not really sure about to get paid so I'll take it apart and run through it and get pics up

Oh yeah almost forgot, mods are trinity 1 to 2 intake 38mm carb pro design head 21 cc domes vforce reeds. I haven't pulled the clutch cover off so I'm not sure what's done in there, I'm pretty sure it has adjustable timing? I'm new to banshees and there mods so bare with me for a little lol but I'll post up pictures when I get home it will probably help more. Oh yeah the Plugs were a dark brown and look good from what I've read If that matters. Thanks in advance

Well I took the banshee for a spin around my neighborhood and noticed a couple of things. First off, it has never done this before, but it took maybe 20 kicks to start and idle. The last time I started it, first kick it fired up and idled? My compression tester threads don't fit but the bike still screams once it's warmed up, next, I read where other people were having issues with the clutch basket bushings, the sound the bike made is idendical to a noise that has recently started in mine. The clutch also doesn't grab until it's almost all the way in, it's hard to go into 2nd and I didn't notice much lag when shifting but there was a small amount. Since I got the bike from cl and I was told trinity built the motor which from what I have read on here makes me conceded on how well put ttogether it is hahaha. But what I am getting to is, what all should I replace/check/test with these issues? So far I was for sure going to do billet clutch basket, the heavy duty clutch on EBay? Unless someone recommends better and I was going to for sure try to get a compression test and anything under 100 psi I'm going to send my motor off to get rebuilt. From what I've read, jeff at FAST is the place to go. But the low compression issues just seemed to arise out of no where? Like I said the bike started first kick nearly everytime and then just yesterday was a chore to get started and idle. The "pops" seem to get louder as the bike warmed up. Not wanting to rebuild right when college starts but hey, While it's apart go 4 mil maybe? Haha
-
I get that feeling but it passes quickly when it's nice out and this will be my first winter with my bike too.....idk about you but I can't wait to ride in the snow haha, after sliding a banshee on grass and wet pavement like friction doesnt exist, I can't imagine the amount of fun I'll have in the snow. Like everyone else said, they are easy to work on and that's half the fun. Good luck with your bike and hope you enjoy it !

Compression tester adapter thread size?
bansheechas replied to bansheechas's topic in General Banshee Discussion
Yeah it's a pro design 21 cc dome. It will thread in about 1-2 full turns then stop and get hard I was afriad to just go torque it down and it not be right I'll go give it a try again. I just got the banshee off cl, I traded my mustang for it so I wanted to get a idea where I was at with the bike so I can mod it accordingly plus it's my first banshee so Im pretty new to two strokes I apprecriate the help this site has lots of good info! -
I just bought a actron compression tester and it came with a 14mm long reach adapter which I thought I read that that's what fit it but it doesn't fit. So I was looking and couldnt find it anywhere but what is the right thread adapter?
