  1. Hey guys I just did a leak down test on my new top end and it holds about 5 psi from 6 after 15 minutes or so and I found the leak... its tiny around the back middle base jug nut.. looks to be coming through the thread.. is it worth even worrying about though? I haven't ran it at all yet is it possible a few heat cycles will just seal it up? I'd rather not take the head off again to get to it... opinions?
  2. The quad ran fine all day long riding hard... I had been WOT in 6th earlier that day with no issues whatsoever, I just flat out ran out of gas
  3. Wow figured you would know something with all those posts.. come tell my fried top end that nothing happens when u run out of gas...
  4. HAHA actually I did see that it was an old post but it related to my issue! Thought i'd bring it back to life! But those of you saying that nothing happens when you run out of gas WOT on a 2 stroke are wrong and you probably were not WOT when u ran out.. I've run out of gas before and not had any issues but I wasn't pinned in 6th when it happened.. If you don't believe me please feel free to give it a shot and tell me the results
  5. I fried both pistons when I ran out of gas WOT in 6th gear... I should have switched to reserve before hauling ass back to camp! Will never run WOT on low fuel ever again.. learned my lesson the hard way! If you don't realize you are low on fuel and you are wide open in 6th gear... there's no "feeling it run on one cylinder and switching to reserve... no.... they are both insta fried. I know this for a FACT. unfortunately. lol Just say no to low fuel and WOT
  6. I concluded that I sucked the bowls dry WOT in 6th.. I should have switched to reserve before hauling ass back to camp. I was also running on the lean side which didn't help the situation. I didn't realize you could even do that... I will never haul ass on a low tank again! On the bright side at least it forced me to upgrade!
  7. Yeah it was my fault but I thought I was still at 320 mains not 300.. probably would have made the difference.. I should have done a plug chop before doing what I did but its all good just means it's time to upgrade!
  8. I want to send my juggs in to a place that can Bore and hone the cylinders, fit the pistons, and port and polish all in one shipment.. I was thinking of calling Herrs since they offer a 300 top end rebuild with purchase of Port & Polish.. looking like its going to run me around 600... will any other place beat this price??
  9. Forgot to mention I also just ordered me some VForce 4 reeds so throw that on the list of mods
  10. God I hate 4 Strokes...

Good I want them to hate me, and wtf are u talkin about Special? lol

  11. Hey guys I recently fried my stock top end.. melted both pistons while pinned in 6th gear in the sand after advancing timing 4 degrees.. I didn't realize that the Yamaha stealership rejetted my mains from 320 to 300 without telling me and this was most likely the cause for running too lean. I've removed my pistons and cylinders and am now trying to decide where to send them in for top end rebuild and possibly a dune port and polish job. I mostly ride dunes and dune trails at sea level in 60 to 80 degree weather. My performance mods are FMF Fatties + Silencers, Air box completely removed, K&N Pod filters, Chariot racing adjustable timing plate set to +4, Chariot cool head with 21cc Domes, Stock carbs with TORS removed, running 92 octane at 40:1 ratio. Ideally I want to be able to still run pump gas.. it sucks that around here 92 is pretty much the highest octane I can ever find without having to buy a can of VP race fuel. Suggestions on what would be the best bang for the buck in my situation? I'm not trying to build a drag bike, just want a fast and most importantly RELIABLE duner that will smoke all my buddies on their whack ass 4 strokes Thanks for the tips and suggestions in advance, this will be my first top end rebuild! appreciate it!
  12. The crumbles at the bottom of the bag are the best part man! Bad analogy haha

  14. WOW. I'm glad I found this post because I had the exact same problem you had and COULD NOT figure it out.. I even bought a cool head because there was a small amount of white smoke coming out but that didn't fix it obviously. My problem was that I just flat out over-oiled my filters, I took them off and it runs 100% better... I'm cleaning them again now and I am not going to put any oil on the inside of the filters this time didnt seem like I put much on them last time but apparently I did! I've seen several posts like this where all sorts of new parts were purchased to try to solve the problem and it turned out to be the god damn air filters.... Just wanted you to feel a little better you aren't the only one!!
