I agree with the plug caps. I the the EXACT same issue. New plug caps. Ran like a champ. Buy brand new caps from Yamaha

The way to really tell for MAXIMUM power, so to run on a dyno, and put a exhaust bung in that reads Air/fuel ratio. Keep leaning it out until the power starts to drop off. Then you know your perfect. USually peak power is around 13:1-14.5:1 Depending on the engine. Every engine is alittle bit different. I will agree "Peak" power on a spark plug soot ring will be less then a dimes thickness. But if you go with a dime thickness its safe and its close to perfect.

if your only doing short wide open bursts like motox track you can get away with lean jetting on the ragged edge. running pinned for 600' you probly want the brown ring alittle higher up the porcelin. 1/3 to 1/2 way up. im no carb expert but i run 600' and it dont take long to ruin a engine if you get caught with your pants down
The ideal Soot ring thickness for WOT jetting is the thickness of a dime. "Light light bown as thick as a dime" is darn close to perfect.

your waaay fat. I would drop 3-4 mains

13 second car? Post back when you figure out how to stage using your heal on the brake and the tip of your toe on the gas.
I thought I was going to see a driving video....not dancing with the stars.
Thats with bone stock nova. Firestone tires and exhaust manifolds. Stock cam. Stock carb ect

FIrst of all what kind of fuel are you running? U deffinitly need to check fora vacume leak as the plugs are very different from left to right. But keep in mind if you are running pump fuel with 10% ethanol they will burn clean like that and look new if its burning a tick lean. if you are looking for 100% performance. you want to have the plugs looking more cleaner then black

leave the mains. Change the pilot and your needle setting

Vito's had issues with their 10mm cranks. They are junk, and i dont think they sell them anymore. NOw vito's 4mm crank is bullet proof. I run one and have zero problems.
-
If you run good fuel. Crank it to +7
-
More then likely you need a carb cleaning.

i run it in everything. Chainsaw's, my sv650, my CFR450R, my F7, The race car. Its too bad they are trying to get in banned because it has lead in it. Because airplanes make so much polution in the world.... COUGH COUGH.. Maybe .0000075% ofthe worlds air pollution. Stupid governments and tree huggers...

The truck driver who delievers to my place says its actual octane rating is 103. Maybe hes full of shit. I dont know. All i know is its good shit
-
from everything i have read, 100ll is not oxygenated.
Also, depends on your gas provider, my local airport it is 108octane, im friends with the owner of the place.
100LL is 103 octane

I tried some 93 pump gas yesterday & almost blew this engine. It started detonating, spark plugs backed out & right cylinder died & was smoking like a freight train. I turned it off & rechecked compression & it was 140-145psi. with the tip being 1/4" shorter than spark plug tip. So it has to have more compression than what the tester is reading. I'm also running +4 timing. I did not have any problems at all before I use 93 pump. So today im going to get 5 gallons of 100LL & see if it gets back to running good.
YOur compression ratio will be around 14:1. 93 octane is for engine with compression around 11-12:1

Thanks I heard the samething before from a member on here. I just needed a second opinion....I will run a second set of plugs with richer mains just to see if the color changes. Im hoping to see the grey get darker, if so I think I can finally read these plugs using this fuel from that.
I have less than 155psi. with +4 timing, how much more compression & timing could I add to 100LL & be safe?....it's not a drag bike but more of a duner 421 cub. I should asking how much compression & timing was you running using 100LL for years?
I have the same set up. 22cc domes, +5 timing. I was wondering the same. I thought maybe 20cc domes max? But that may be asking for trouble. I wouldnt do less then 21cc domes on 100LL
-
So what color are you guys plugs when you're are checking them running 100LL? I checked mines & they are grey.
That is perfect!! Dont let anyone fool you saying its lean. They dont know shit. Ledded fuel runs Light grey even almost a white when it perfectly tuned. Trust me. Your fine. Been running 100LL for YEARS
-
Your plug Gap is a .070?? AM i reading that correct?? .070!???
Dude thats your problem. YOur blowing out the spark. I would do .020-.025. Dont touch your mains. Try your plug gap first. YOur soot ring on the plugs dont look that bad.
-
you want milk choclate brown.....not light grey. yes i know it makes the most power......however 2strokes tend to make their most power and run stronger than hell AFTER it has been leaned beyond a safe amount
IF you run proper fuel,You wont have an issue running it on the lean side. Yes for sure you can go too far. BUt with my set up with 100LL i can run a lighter grey and still be on the safe side hands down.
-
Looks a little rich, but not as bad as he says, looks like you could come down a little bit. You need to do a wot plug chop to get a accurate reading.
Alittle rich?.... You should see my plugs. Liiiiight liight grey. Sometimes almost a dark white. MAkes the most power where i have it set at. Ill post a picture some day.
-
drop 2-3 main jet sizes. YOU ARE RICH as hell. Are you running diesel in that thing? LOL
-
I would think MAXXX on a 421 cub would be with 21CC domes and plus 6-8 degrees. 100LL is awesome fuel. The actual octane rating is 103.
Too much compression
