1. well I finally got a chance to open it up and the impeller looks fine, its not even a plastic one its metal. It's definably a seal somewhere that is leaking the water out. any easy way of finding the hole? i guess maybe one of those UV light kits for radiator leaks could make this easy...
2. doesnt really smell like gas or exhaust but I wanna check out the water pump. Is there a way to test the pump?
3. Went riding yesterday, didnt push it very hard but by the end it was at 220 F on the temp. When i would turn it off to take a break i would here it sizzlin inside the radiator. I also keep finding myself out of coolant all the time but there is no leak, its like it all shoots out on the pipe from the run off tubes...? I was gonna invest in some wetter water or w.e the coolant additive is called to try and keep the temp down so it doesnt boil out. I feel like there is something else wrong though.
4. I like the twist throttle cuz my thumb always gets tired and it feels more like a bike w/ twist but this shit is dangerous idk how im supposed to safety that.
5. went for a ride today and wrecked my bike bad :/ Just had installed a new handle bar w/ a twist throttle kit so I was playing, getting used to it. Went off a jump and as i came down it was kinda sketchy and when i pulled back it must have twisted the throttle cuz the banshee just revved up and came up. Flipped me off of it and went on tumbling. since ive put that damn twist throttle on I have had so many close calls where i hit the gas by accident trying to pull the brake lever. I landed on my ass and didnt have a scratch on me so i really have nothing to complain about but god damn my poor banshee i was actually too frustrated to call it a day because i pretty much had just gotten there after driving an hour, so i just duct taped my front arm and kept on riding my limp shee. damage assessment: broken A-arm both silencers bent broke the ends off on the back of the frame. plastics are pretty fucked up in the back
6. ya installed a twist throttle kit w/ TORS cancelers, the slides were backwards lol problem solved thanks man!
7. my banshee will barely start and when it does it will randomly rev up in idle. actually when it revs up its like the left cylinder stops firing and then the right just starts revving up then it will just die. All while im just standing next to it watching it idle by itself. The throttle valves are in their bottom idle position and the throttle is untouched. its gotta be something carburetor im thinking but i cant figure it out. any ideas? -Kev
8. Just an update but nothing is really burning in the left cylinder, it will burn sometimes and ill see smoke in high rev. but if i just put my hand behind the left pipe and gas it a lil my hand gets oil/gas spat on it and the left pipe will just be warm to the touch while the other will burn skin. i just changed my plugs and checked for spark but still having trouble.
9. I just installed a twist throttle kit on my bike but it keeps acting weird. When i go riding it will sometimes get stuck and continue to rev even with my hand off the throttle. The thing is when it happens ill take the seat off and see the throttle valves are both sitting down at idle position. The needles are still properly attached to the valves so they close up the jets in idle position so i dont understand why its happening. I also sprayed the carbs and manifold w/ engine start to check for air leaks but i didn't find anything. Its fine when I just start the bike and it will idle fine but when i take it out and warm it up it will start to rev on its own and sometimes just die on idle. any suggestions? -Kev
10. ya were talking about the same thing, wasnt sure what to call them. Ya i figured it was something like that. Thanks for the input!
11. Had to replace one of my intake manifolds so i got one for cheap off this guy on craigslist but it was only until i left that i realized that the flanges were cut off. So i text the guy asking why and he said they are better that way... So Im guessing it was to fit a different reed cage or maybe for porting or something. I haven't install it yet but I wanted to see if anyone else has heard of something like this before? should i take off the other manifold and do the same? or is this guy taking me for a ride and should i just try to get my money back? I mean it was $10 so its really no biggy but still
12. mine does this too and i also have a fresh top end and fresh rebuilt / tuned carbs... I never put much thought into it though because it runs fine
13. yeah i run just with out the lid, so maybe 30 for pilots?
14. 0-150ft 85 degrees stock intake .75 over gold series FMF also checked again and the main jet in there now is 330 not 390 its really hard to read. I also have the needle set to 3rd from the bottom, out of 6. I ended up just using the old main and pilot jet because its better than using these stock sizes and putting the carbs back in today. But, I would still like to try and figure out what would be best for when i have some money/time to get the proper jets.
15. ok got my kits today and opened up the carbs the main jet is 390 and the new one is 200 the pilot jet is 30 and the new one is 25 the pilot air jets are the same 16 Im guessing this is the set up for my pipes, so would i be better off just keeping the old main and pilot jets in and replacing the rest of the hardware that i have in the kit? also i dont think it specified in my book which notch i should put the clip on for the throttle needle. the stock one has only one notch i think and my new ones have 5?
16. not sure proabably not, When I take it apart this week I'll check. I bought the bike with the pipes already so the previous owner woulda had to have doe it.
17. ok cool will do. Will both carbs have the same settings on each?
18. I'm rebuilding the carbs on my bike and need help tuning . Im assuming its just the air/flew screw but not sure where to start at. I have the Clymer manual but i could only find information about the rebuild and not tuning. i have a .75 over bore w/ boost bottle & carbon fiber reeds w/ fmf pipes if any of that information is helpful in the tuning process.
19. im pretty sure the head is stock but I'll check again when i get the chance. the gauge could be faulty too, the rubber end that you push in the spark-plug hole is pretty old and cracked. thanks for the input
20. yeah i'm using the same head. what should my compression be at?
21. I just finished rebuilding my engine and went from size 67mm back down to 64.75mm cylinders. So I dropped the engine back into the shee and try to get it to start but I'm getting nothing... I checked the compression and its like 60psi on one and 67psi on the other. I'm getting spark. So I'm guessing it has to be fuel. I'm thinking that the carbs need to be tuned because of the now smaller cylinder size but I would have thought I could at least get it to fire or just run like shit. anyone have any ideas?
22. looks airbrushed, dude has some serious skill.
23. Na the cylinders are clean w/ stock bore and matching set pistons still in. But I get what your saying. Thanks everyone for the input, I dont feel so bad anymore.
24. true that first day i bought it I ordered the repair manual but after I got so frustrated w/ the head gasket I thought it'd be a good idea to let someone inspect it all. true that, my inexperience had alot to do w/ it. but yeah I signed up here for that exact reason. I talked to Alf and he hooked me up w/ a set of stock cylinders and pistons for $355 they were a used pair so I'm pretty sure the pistons are still in the cylinders so all i have to do is drop them down and hook up the rods. The tranny how ever I did let them work on and it cost around 300 parts and labor. it's all water under the bridge now and just gonna take it as a learning experience. Hoping to have it running within the next 2 weeks.
25. It really sucks to get fucked. So I've always wanted an atv and specifically chose the banshee as my first bike because i know it has a good reputation and kinda stood up above the rest in my opinion. So I put in the extra hours saving up. Sold my car for a truck and finally had a good amount of money on the side so that i could start picking one out. scanned CL for a while until I finally came across this 99 shee going for $1900 that ran strong had FMF pipes, boost bottle, and some other small mods. But it was also very used and the seat cover was coming off along w/ the plastics being pretty bad and had bald tires. I was more flexible about how it looked because everything else I saw was 2200+ for just a decent stock shee. So the plan was to save a little, buy this and have it as a project and fix up all the small things and learn as I go. Call the guy and after being super sketchy and leaving me waiting all day I finally meet up w/ him and he shows me the bike. Starts right up, jump on and start taking it for a ride (this is my first time riding so I dont know how its supposed to feel) pulled hard and I was able to feel the powerband kick in and i was like oh hell yeah. Shifting though was super hard but I'm thinking in my head maybe I'm just not used to using my hand for the clutch and foot to shift. Also the guy said the clutch is a little old and that it might be harder. Once again I was like w.e no biggie. But anyways haggle the guy down to 1800 give him the money and take the bike home. Next day I take it out maybe ride for about 25min boom blown head gasket so I'm like fuck... order a new one its the wrong size because he didnt bother to tell me that the engine was bored out and I never thought to check So with the head gasket too small when i turned it over it pull one of the rings off and scored my left piston so once again I'm like fuccckkkk call him up and he offers to sell me cheetah cylinders before i could explain even explain what happened to the piston... and im like wtf no I just want to get it running. So I eventually get frustrated enough that i pull the engine and drop it off at a shop. get a call back... cylinders are completely bored out to the max so i HAVE to get sleeves and then I have to get it re-ported to match the sleeves. Also the transmission... The main shaft is broken and all of the forks are bent.... I get quoted for over $2000 for parts, labor, and machining. call the guy up... never picks up... I wonder why.... So yeah I did learn from this banshee, always assume that all CL sellers are ass holes and never trust a word they say.
