  1. snow donuts on the banshee!!!

  2. I have my doubts that the flywheel would spin around the crank. once i cleaned up the shaft a bit and got a proper key (local Yamaha dealer gave me a key that was too small....) the flywheel went on very tight. I tapped it on with a rubber mallet and even without the nut on i couldn't budge it. hopefully that and the amount of locktite I put on the nut will keep everything together. hitting the sand tomorrow so fingers crossed that she holds up.
  3. ill second on the medal of honor sucking! haven't gotten black ops yet but I will be in the near future.
  4. also, what if I used a teflon or nylon locking nut on the flywheel?
  5. is there a certain brand or grit of lapping compound I should get?
  6. what kind of lapping compound did you use? and where might I be able to get some? haha yeah nothing gives me a chubby like a garage full of 2 stroke smoke!
  7. My bike keeps eating flywheel keys. I just took the motor completely apart to make sure the crank was all tight, it is just like brand new. so we put in a new woodruff key and torqued everything back down. I also put a top end in because I already had it apart and my compression was a bit low anyways. Today I went to the pit and maybe 20 minutes into breaking the bike in, it starts sputtering and knocking and then stalls out. Took off the flywheel cover and the nut had backed off so much that it spun off by hand and of course the flywheel chewed up the key. Has anyone else had this problem? and how do I go about fixing this? Tomorrow im going to grab another key and try to locktite the nut on. any other suggestions?? Thanks
  8. just search banshee ski kit and its the only thing that will come up. He makes the brackets and they are adjustable so that it will fit different bikes. they bolt directly to ski doo brand skis. good idea. I was thinking about making up a set for my bike but these are cheap enough that ill probably just end up buying them.
  9. nice. definitely worth the 39 bucks haha. I like the new white/red theme. looks good man.
  10. here in nova scotia they have been selling man. there have been a few that have sat on kijiji for a while because they are beat to shit and still want a fortune for them but any nice ones at least on the mainland have been selling quickly.
  11. bring it up here to Canada. there are bikes on kijiji that have just pipes and reeds going for 4000 around here and lately people have been buying up banshees like crazy. I had a line on 3 before I found mine that all sold within 2 weeks. you could probably sell yours for 5 or so here no problem haha.
  12. thanks for all the help guys. Unfortunately im on night shift for the next few days so I wont get a chance to tinker with the bike till probably Friday. Ill keep you all posted.
  13. I was thinking maybe it could be something with the clutch. Ill have to open it up tomorrow afternoon once i get home from work and have a look see. haven't drained the oil but I checked it and it looks to be fine, and there's lots in it. Im working on getting a clymers. stupid paypal wont let me on my account though... rar.
  14. went riding yesterday and the bike was working excellent. had it to the pit for a while and up the road a little bit then stopped at my buddies camp. when we got ready to leave the bike started right up but now makes a horrible crunching/knocking sound in the bottom end at idle. gave it a blip on the throttle and the noise goes away and it sounds normal until it drops back to idle.. decided not to run it anymore and towed it home. Im thinking it must be the crank? was going to pull it apart today but got called in to work tonight. has anyone had this happen or do you know if the noise could be anything other than the crank. the bike has been taken care of, has had all fluids changed recently and the plugs are just a bit golden brown like they should be. one thing I noticed is that the bike seemed to be pretty hot after one long run down the road but I shut it down when we got to the pit and after it cooled down for a while it started right back up and I had no troubles with it until later that day. let it sit maybe 4 or 5 other times before going to the camp and it was fine every time. I have never worked on a banshee but I have worked on other bikes and im pretty handy, so I would much rather do the work myself than taking it to a dealer so they can charge me a ridiculous amount of money (which is tight right now with tuition coming up) so I will probably just get a manual and go at it myself. What manual does everyone use? i have heard there is one from Yamaha and a clymers one and a few others but I think ill go with the clymers. let me know what you think.
  15. my bike came with the stock swingarm skid plate that just covers the sprocket and brake rotor. does anyone know how tough these are? my bike looks like it has hardly been driven before i got it and there are maybe one or two small dings in the plate and a couple of scratches but it obviously hasn't been smashed off any rocks or stumps. I haven't had it in the woods too much yet but I plan on getting another set of rims/tires to sit the bike up more for the woods and was wondering if the stock skid plate was any good? I have been looking around for aftermarket ones but they are usually over 100 bucks plus shipping here would most likely be another 50 bucks from the states. Has anyone reinforced the stocker? Im thinking I will try this before dropping the cash on an aftermarket one. I was also looking at full skid plates for the underside of the bike as well as a arm skid plates, are these worth it? I have access to metal and im pretty handy at fabricating stuff up, it would probably be pretty easy to make up a skid and mounting brackets for the bottom of the bike too. just wondering if anyone here has had any luck with making your own skid plates or reinforcing the stock one.
  16. I will burn off all the gas before mixing up some more. and i have no concerns about more power haha so I think ill just stick to 32:1 for now at least haha. thanks for the help!
  17. when switching oils, would it be best to use most of the gas already in the tank before filling with new gas/oil mix of a different brand or does it really matter if they are both mixed at the same ratio. Im mixing 32:1
  18. this topic has most likely been beaten to death and your all most likely going to call me names and throw stones for asking this but.... what is the best oil to run in my new shee? the guy I bought it from was running Lucas 2 stroke oil. I never heard of it until I bought the bike and he gave me the jug. its apparently pretty expensive and is semi synthetic but im kind of iffy about using it. I always ran ipone in my 2 strokes and I will probably go pick some of that up on Monday but I was just wondering if there was anything that is "the best" stuff to use. My bike is relatively stock, just pipes (fmf) and reeds (boyesen) and uni filter. not sure if that makes any difference but just wondering what everyone else is using. thanks
  19. 32:1 will work fine. when I had my blaster that's what I ran when I removed the oil injection and it ran perfect.
  20. thanks for the info guys, if anyone else has anything to add I would appreciate it.
  21. hey, I have been browsing the site here for a while now and have learned quite a bit about banshees, I have also been trying to sell the bike I had to free up some cash and space in the garage so I could get myself a shee. Sold my bike today so I have been looking around and have found 3 or 4 banshees in my price range that im gonna go look at soon. I will be taking a compression tester with me so what should the compression be? im guessing somewhere around 120 psi would be good? the bikes that im going to look at are all around 2000 to 2004. All are piped and one has cool head and boost bottle but that's it for mods. also do you check with both plugs out and throttle wide open or does it really matter? what would be an acceptable difference in psi between both cylinders? Also is there anything really banshee specific that I should look for when I go to check them out? I am not a stranger to atvs and have done some work on 2 and 4 stroke bikes so I know the basics. Thanks
