for the sputtering check the gap between the stator and flywheel. Mine was to big and was having the same sputtering on the top end like you described. Set it to .017.
ok i got it fixed guys. It was the pickup gap on the flywheel. When I put the new stator on I didnt set the gap. It was double what it was supposed to be. .017.
Its like a whole new quad now. lol Runs smoother and more crisp throttle control and more power.
Might actually take it out riding now and leave the 450 at home.
Thanks for you help guys.
Looking at some stuff I noticed I dont have a coolant tank. Im just running the small hose at the fill neck of the radiator out the back of the swingarm. Not sure if this messes up the coolant flow pattern or not.
Hi guys. My first banshee build. Built the engine myself and it runs good for about 10 to 15 minutes and then cuts out/sputters up top and seems to lose some power. I'm stumped on this one.
List of mods:
ported cylinders bores .20 over. about 3 or so hours ride time on them
new RM stator
32mm flatslides with 230 main jets
pro circuit pipes new packing
cleaned petcock and ran new 5\16 fuel hose
carbs synced with tool
new boyesen power reeds(the 2 stage reeds)
stock gearing
stock head
+4 timing does it with stock timing too.
Still has the stock water pump and running 50\50 prestone mix. It dosent seem to be using that much coolant. I mean I check the radiator cap and its been just a tad low before nothing major though.
I usually ride it on tight trails and never get past 4th gear. About 85-95 outside temperatures.
Its a 99 model.
-thanks
Matt
I was wondering this also. My friends banshe has wayyyy better response and he has +4 timing, but also has different pipes than me. He has FMF's and I have DMCs and his has alot more low end power and mine can really only be ridden on the pipe.
