Wanted one since I was 9 years old. Love them to death. I finally got around to buying an 03 limited edition banshee in great shape. It ran like a top the first couple days I had it. It idled perfectly and accelerated like a rocket. After a few days of riding, it's starting to sputter BAD after mid throttle. For instance, second gear, right about as I'm in the power band and want to crack the throttle it won't go. Just sputters and acts like it's not getting enough fuel. It seems to sputter at full throttle only. I can get up to it's max rpm, but not if it's pinned. Never did this right after I bought it. Maybe 10 hours on it and it started to do this. It has FMF gold series exhaust on it, the guy said it was jetted with the pipes. It's NEVER been rebuilt, or fouled a plug in it's life, and it's never been taken apart. One thing I did notice, is that there's a male/female connecter (3 prongs) right above the head of the motor that's unplugged. When I plug it in, it won't idle, and it doesn't seem to get up and go as fast. It's currently unplugged. . . runs better, but I'm not sure what this is yet. Could reeds/dirt carb be causing my sputter? I was thinking plugs, but they're light brown, seem okay. I'm unsure what jet size it is, but it sounds like a main jet issue. Some pointers would be nice before I take it apart to find out what's wrong. Besides my sled, this is my first two stroke I've ever owned, so I'm not 100% familiar with them yet. or really at all haha. But some advice would be great. I'd love to hop on it and ride, but if I can't pin it, there's no fun in riding a banshee. Like I said, this just started happening.
