  1. Its not so much that its "hard" is a pain in the ass, you have to pull the engine, and reseal the cases with yama-bond after you change the seal. Its time consuming, if you are serious about wanting it to last split the cases. if you want it dont fast and some-what right you can just tap a new seal in. dont trim anything off of the seal, its there for a reason, and never use silicon on seals that are in contact with gas. You might want to split your cases to clean out the silicone before it causes any problems gumming up your crank or your clutch plates, depending on how much u actually used.
  2. If you oil the seal alot and tap it in evenly it will hold. i Changed mine out at Silverlake in Michigan last year in the parking lot, mine held and knock on wood i havent had a problem since. Just find something that is the right diameter for the seal and tap it evenly. Dont get me wrong cracking the case is the "right" way to do it, but i you take your time and dont force the seal in you can manage without cracking the cases. DONT USE SILICONE, it'll peal away and get sucked into your crank, or into your clutch. horrible idea to use silicone.

I also had the same probelm, it was the right crank seal, you can get it for like 9 bux at your dealer, they tell you to split the cases to change it, but you can get away with using a peice of PVC pipe/pipe fitting to tap it back in. Take the New seal to Homedepot and find a fitting that fits right inside it (i think it was like $1.19), then tap it gently back in. It worked on mine and i didnt even have to pull the engine.
