If this every happens to anyone else. The quickest way to stop the engine is to choke it. The engine has gone to a super lean condition. I'm a marine mechanic and the Johnson/evinrude 40HP were notorious for doing this when running on a garden hose and you rev it then slam it back to idle(doing that sequence sets up the lean condition)
