  1. since ive added a +6 to mine i do still light trail ride it but i have noticed when you come up on a log or a downed tree across a trail it isnt as easy as it was b 4 to get the front end up and hop over them as it used to be.if i didnt have another stock wheelbase quad to ride and was going to use the banshee just for trail riding i would put the stock swing arm back in to it.i will have to say it has made hill climbing sweet though.

  2. i have not run a vitos piston but if wiseco makes the piston for them why just not run the wisce piston.whats wrong with the wisce prolites.i read a deal on vitos

Banshee owners, Have you ever asked yourself, "I wonder if there is a way I can get my Banshee cylinders ported, but have the option to put them back to stock form in case I do not like it?" Or have you ever thought, "I would like to have my Banshee ported for more power, but I have been told that if I go to sell it, the resale value of my Banshee would be less because of the reliability factor with ported motors?"

This is a common problem that owners of the mighty Banshee twin cylinder beast face. Well, now there is an answer to these questions in which most Banshee owners will like: Vito's Superstock Pistons.

Cutting pistons is nothing new to the motor world, but it can be time consuming and costly. Vito has taken this process a step further by having Wiseco manufacture pistons with these cuts already in place to his specs. The pistons are the equivalent of raising the exhaust port 1.75 mm or 3.5 degrees more duration with the cutout on the exhaust side of the piston. For reliability, Vito has also had Wiseco move the ring lands down on the piston to help keep heat away from them. You will also notice the dual angle crown on the piston that brings the compression up to where it is supposed to be and compensate for the cutout in the piston. The intakes are also bigger and higher up to increase intake timing and to allow more of the next fuel charge into the cases. With the piston skirt being shorter and with the shorter and internally tapered wrist pin there is considerable weight savings. The lighter weight piston is nice for a quicker revving motor.

Our stock Banshee was in need of a rebuild due to the extended hours of wide-open running up and down our fire roads and the drag strip. Although the compression was not low, the service limit for hours was met and we did not want to take a chance of scattering a perfectly good motor just because of simple neglect. We also wanted to get more performance out of it without spending the big dollars of a port job. We contacted Vito and he set us up with a set of his Super Stock Pistons to install into our Banshee.

After having the cylinders bored and reinstalling everything, it was time to ride. After a careful break-in period, we headed out to our favorite drag area. With no other changes then a fresh bore, Super Stock Pistons, and correct jetting we right away noticed how much more responsive the motor was. We were worried that we would lose some low-end torque with these pistons being the equivalent of raising the exhaust port. To our surprise bottom end response was at least equal to or more then stock. After numerous runs up and down our drag area we found that we also had considerably more mid to top end power with an increase of several hundred RPM's on our stock piped Banshee.

By simply installing a set of these pistons you can transform your stock Banshee into a "sleeper" Banshee that will blow right by your buddies stock Banshee and he won't even know what hit him, unless he reads this article before you do and buys his own set. :-)

With this setup Vito also recommends his jet kit with includes 35 pilots, custom Red needles and bigger mains. To top off the package he also says to run his 4-degree timing advance key and reed spacers. We did not put these 2 items on, as we wanted to get an idea of the performance gain with the Super Stock Pistons alone.

We are very happy with the performance gains of the Vito Power Pistons and would have no problem recommending them to anyone who takes care of their Banshee by having it on a regular maintenance schedule, runs good oil, and keeps the air filter clean.

Stay tuned for upcoming tests on the complete Vito package of Degree Key and Reed Spacers, as we will add these one mod at a time.

now i can see with the piston design you could change port timing durations etc but come on your not going to get your cylinders ported with a set of pistons.the only way your going to get ported cylinders is have them ported. i will stick with wiseco prolites.

someone please correct me if im wrong here.

  3. WAY back in the day....we had a Jet Ski do the same thing. Luckily, out of water on a stand.

Kill switch didn't work, we ended up pulling the gas feed line/cap off...and letting it run out of fuel. (It sucked the fuel down like water from a straw)

Needless to say, after we leak down tested it and found a bad intake gasket, no one was jumping at the opportunity to be the first to ride it on the lake.

Alky bikes are good for doing that...running away is what we call it.

Normally..what we do is click up as many gears as we can, FLOOR the throttle...STAND on the brake and dump the clutch to kill it.

First time it happens to you...you damn near shit yourself....

Leak down test it. What happens is due to the air leak, it gets SO hot in the cylinder that it no longer needs spark to ignite the fuel/air. It ignites off the heat and compression (yes...just like a diesel)

Funny thing is...a top fuel dragster makes half the pass down the track like this, every time. They burn off the spark plugs and literally diesel half way down the track...

that dont work on every thing ,my cr 500 stuck wide open and i immediately pulled in the clutch shifted from 2nd to fifth stomped the brake and let off the clutch and it went in to a sliding wheelie.i just kicked away from it and let it do its own thing with out me.was scary as fuck.i repaired the kill switch and the problem with the slide in the carb and had butterflies in my stomach the next time i went to ride it.

  4. haha ya i figured that it would be a little one sided, but ya never know there are people on here that prolly have a 250r kickin around... still not sure though if i want to invest in one, may just get another shee and try my hand at a turbo instead! are there any websites anywhere that would sell kits for a banshee that u guys know of???

if you dont have alot of turbo knowlege i wouldnt recommend it.try a noss kit way cheaper, takes up way less room and will give you the edge your looking for.

  5. check to see if both spark plugs have good fire, maybe even put some new ones in.if you can spray into the carbs and it will run off that means you are not getting fuel to the combustion chamber one way or the other from the carbs.you say the carbs are getting fuel, check to see if there is any fuel in the float bowls.

  6. There definatly isnt many tha will hand me my ass. If you owned lt's then you would know that not even a 421 cheetah cub doesnt beat a well ridden stock zilla. And also if u take some time and read all my posts u will c that Im just messing with all u losers. I know plenty of banshee owners and there all losers like you. You get so pissed that you mention my mother? Why dont you be a little more original peebrain. Is that the best you can do! Your momma is so ugly she looks Like Allen Greenspan after a market crash  . Anyway, stop suckin on your moms hairy nipples and go get a job or a life of some sort. Happy Holidays.

dude i know you have the fastest shit everybody else's shit is slow,i put a +6 swing arm om my banshee just for looks ,not that i got tired of riding on the back tire every gear and couldn't stay in it.and yes i did own a lt 500 and yes it did haul ass for what it was but to be honest with you my banshee is faster, but has more done to it then the lt did.i sold my lt because the swing arm broke where the carrier is,the left front broke where the shock bolts to the frame on top while i was hauling ass, then i got a vibration and found out it was the crank, fixed it then the transmission locked up so i decided to sell it and bought a 250r.now that's one bike i kick my self in the ass for getting rid of.long story short the lt was a piece of shit and was expensive to repair.and your just fucking with every body here which would be fine if you knew them/me but you don't.i have friends that can fuck with me and i can do the same but have known them for years.all i know i was brought up a little better than you and know whats right and wrong.i was also taught not to start no shit but don't take none either.i don't go around talking shit to people i don't know.the way i look at it your the one that came here talking smack about everybody and everybody's wheels just trying to stir up shit.i read your stupid shit till i got tired of it.you don't own a chevy and go to a ford site to talk shit about ford and tell them there shit is junk and tell them there stupid and there shit is ugly etc.i hope you don't do this in the real world in person, and if you do i surprised your still alive or haven't had your ass whooped a few times.i don't need to explain any thing to you any further, some one eventually wont take you very well and your gonna find your self in a situation that you wont like and cant handle.and about my mom at least i got one instead of two daddy's and a chemistry set you faggot ass queer burp snotty end of the fuck stick licker, cock smoker mother fucking bastard two daddy have ass but hole baby with a slow ass lt 500 because you gay ass cant ride it lol.dude you know im only messing with ya happy holidays.

  7. port work will make more of a difference than any other mod you can do but it all adds up.your talking about racing a 1/2 mile then your saying you want the power to hit on the bottom.if your going to be doing alot of high speed flying you need a drag port,if your doing alot of trail riding you need a trail port etc.i think if your trying to beat a lt 500 in a drag race you will need the drag port unless the lt is a turd.some bigger carbs will complement the port work as well.a cool head with some domes and race gas will help it alot 2.its all about what you are trying to do.

  8. who races a 1/2 mile lt 500 is like a banshee and like a gt mustang no 2 run the same.ive seen 2 stock mustangs where one will smoke the other one many different times over the years.then it comes down to the rider which makes the most difference in a short race.who rides better you or him.also is his lt a turd or is it tuned right.is your bike tuned right.i had a lt500 years back and it was just jetted with a lcs pipe and a k&n filter and it would run the better part of 90mph high 80's.i think if you raced him on concrete or black top or what ever you would win.i think on a loose gravel/dirt road he may spank you.thats always been a issue with banshee tire spin in the worst way.are you gonna race from a standing start from a roll on.theres really no way to know this un til you tell us about it.i will tell you thouh if the lt is spot on and running like it should and he can ride it you may be in trouble.now im not trying to say anything bad about a banshee here, im just trying to compare you and him.if you had a stroker and a drag port with all the other goodies and could ride it he wouldnt have a chance.but like i say i have owned a lt 500 and the one i had was not a turd when i owned it i used to spank all kinds of shit.

  9. Wheres the best shop to ship my jugs to get ported? No shops do it around me. Looking for a MX/Trail port job at a good price. Also have a question. Can you port the jugs before boring?

    rb porting

    jeffery riddle

and theres a few others i can think of for the $200.00 range.your just not going to get it any cheaper than that for a decent to good port job unless you know somebody.

  10. put a set of pro wedge 2's on it.

you read about the new maxxis 4 snow tires.i read an article where they grow like 40 percent during acceleration also 1 pound lighter than the pro wedge 2's.the test i read they compared the 2 tires and stated the 4 snows where running 1 to 2 tenths better in the 300 ft on dirt.oh they also have taller tread depth.just thought i would through that out there didnt know if you knew about them.

  11. Wondering how much i shuld take off my head when i shave it down. a messurment would be helpfull. or maby even a compreshion chart. =)

search the site it has been covered more than once.use .090 solder in your spark plug hole bring your piston up to squish the solder, measure that and it will tell you how much room you have in the combustion chamber.you can mill some but if you go very far it will mess up your squish band.the best thing to do is buy a noss head it will run cooler you will have the advantage of changing domes for diff compression if you want to run race gas or pump fuel.i have shaved heads and you wont notice a seat of pants difference and you motor will run hotter.if you were going to drag race i would say mill it rechamber it but if you want to dune it or trail ride get a noss head.

  12. How long do bottom ends usually last before needing a rebuild? I know it will vary from rider to rider and bike to bike.I am thinking I may be due to rebuild the bottom end. it is 10 years old 3 seasons of desert racing and practice, some flat track time as well, on it some dune trips never been apart 4 or 5 top ends though. I was thinking on going 4 mil with some porting. but the way they are talking around here on cracking down on decible noise and spark arrestors. I am not sure if there are any decent spark arrested silencers out there that wouldn`t kill those mods. currently I am running t-5s I have torn the bike down and replaced the bent frame and other worn out items shocks etc.. I was thinking since I have gone that far might as well tear into the motor. It runs fine just can`t make up my mind if I should and if it would be worth changing it. I mainly just trail ride it now might do some more desert races. but more power is always good  :ermm:

wouldnt hurt to do crank bearings why you have the motor out, bearings are alot cheaper than cases.sounds like the motor has done alot wouldnt hurt to check to see if it needs them.

  13. sounds like with the amount of play you have in your axle bearings they have been that way for a while.if the bearings have tried to seize in the axle carrier the new bearings may prematurely wear due to the old bearings spinning in the carrier.make sure the new bearings fit the carrier properly.

  14. Hey buddy  Have you looked at the front end of that banshee lately? Wheres the rest of it? If theres one thing that we should all be able to agree on is that the banshee is one ugly Mutha F@#$%!

i have owned lt 250's and a lt 500 have also owned a 250r.i own a banshee and a z400 today.i loved every one of them.i don't discriminate on any of them.for you 2 say you haven't been beat by a banshee yet means you don't ride much because there are many that will hand you your ass.you definitely don't have the fastest lt 500 out there.besides all of this none of it changes the fact that your an ass hole.i have friends i ride with that ride honda's kawasaki etc i don't tell them there shit is junk.i tell you what while your looking at you tube videos look at the white raptor 700 with the turbo i bet you lt 500 will out run it to.it would be one thing for you to come here and act civilized but you have to be a prick and think if its not a lt 500 then it junk.anyway i wouldn't lower myself to talk bad about your wheels because i like all of them so ill just talk bad about you.suzuki ain't the problem you are and you are a dick head straight up.you say the banshee is ugly it happens to be a good looking design to me and a bunch of others who have been riding them for years.you want to talk about ugly your mom is ugly and should have used birth control.

  15. remember the saying when in doubt gas it.thats what i think, make it as fast as you can and dont be a pussy ride it.i have all my life been trying to make all my shit faster,i can not see restricting power in any situation but thats just me.im the guy that would want the big hit on top just for the excitement in the ride.weather or not it made it to the top of the hill ,i would want the extra excitement during the hill.i dont like predictable easy to ride shit if i did i would be riding a 400ex.but i guess we all have choices/options and i guess thats what keep the retailers in business ,all the options, something out there for every one.just be thankful you dont have to run a restrictor plate like in nascar or some bull shit like that.if these guys want to build cubs and restrict them cause they cant handle the power they produce so be it.

  16. If you are using a torque wrench you should not take feel out of the question. If you have a torque wrench that isn't calibrated properly or a cheap one and you tighten something with it you can either snap off a bolt or not get it tight enough. A faulty or low quality torque wrench can give you a false sense of security and a foot lbs torque wrench is not very accurate at low settings. I would trust and inch pounder more at these lower torque values.

i agree 100% i have several quality torque wrenches and i like the 2 inch pound torque wrenches i have best, not only because there more accurate but also because of their size,i have a 1/4'' and a 3/8" drive inch pound torque wrenches and able to use them in tight spaces with accuracy.ive learned my lesson using cheapo junk ones years ago.if i was going to use a cheap one though it would be a needle pointer style and go by feel as well.for all the guys that have broke off bolts here and there it may be a good idea to replace the bolts after they have been torqued a few times.especially on important bolts like head bolts etc.

  17. Here I thought I was the only one that did that. I think we need mythbusters to prove it...LOL.

My old shop teacher in high school always told us this...but, he's was old school.

i just found out about it like 4 years ago,ive been buying tools off the tool trucks since i was 15 and i will be 43 in january. the snap on dude told me that like 4 years ago when i purchased an inch pound torque wrench.i was like why didnt someone tell me this about $50 grand ago.

  18. back in the day b 4 quads were even thought of,they used to change pipes on dirt bikes like the honda elsinores,cr 125 for instance.you could get a high pipe a low pipe or a mid rise pipe to change the power band of the engine.between the pipe changes you could have lower end grunt, mid range power or more top end power from the change of your pipe.i go back to these days and rode and owned these old school bikes.i have owned many kawi h2 tripple 2 stroke 750's hi 500's yamaha rd's etc.i also have alot of drag racing experience 1/4 mi and 1/8 mile my last drag bike ran 5.20 at a 149 mph in the 1/8 mile and 7.6 sec in the quarter what banshee does that none.anyway my point here is i agree with alot of what every one is saying here, alot of good points have been made for the big rpm motors and for the guy thats trying to make usable power.i can see taking a cub motor and making usable power and the extra cooling the cub cylinders provide among other reasons.im always reading about how people are looking for more hp,im one of them but at the same time i have a trail quad and its a 4 stroke great for tight trail rides and race Chase through the woods.my banshee being way faster than my z400 i dont think my banshee can fuck with my z 400 in its habitat where it shines and the z wont fuck with the banshee in a drag race.bottom line here is nobody is correct or wrong cause there is a million ways to skin a cat and something that work for one person may not work for the other.thats why we have options and and able to make our own decisions.and nobody here has figured out what works for them with out trial and error.i think more people need to be more opened minded even though you have been through all the trial and error,no matter what one may know theres always something to learn and new ways to do things,i have found that the smartest one can learn something from the dumbest one on more than on e occasion.
