  1. Hi Guys,

I've got a low compression issue on my 421 cub motor. (approx. 100psi right, 150psi on the left) Sorry for the long post, I'll try and keep this short as possible.

The motor is out of the bike and I have identified the following parts:

Crank (HR204 found on crank itself)

Rods (CK 158 found on rods)

    Hot Rods 4mm Crank/Stroker Kit?

Pistons (7842f on upper top of piston, 573m06800 on lower top of piston)

    Wiseco Pistons?

    Doms (20 found on dome)

    20cc domes?

    Cool Head

I have driven the bike for no more than 15 minutes. Apparently, the motor had been recently rebuilt (before I purchased it) and this appears to be true. (cross hatching appearing on cyclinder walls, pistons, bearings all look as though they have very little use.). The bike was always ran on Klotz at 35:1 with 91 octane pump. While I was riding it there was always heavy smoke (too much) and the plugs where running quite dark, so I don't think this occurred during my 15 minutes of riding.

From my limited knowledge of this stuff it appears as though this might be a heat seize.

    1. What do you guys think caused this?

    2. Is this is a mismatch of parts? (too high compression for example?)

    3. Do you think the play in the bottom end is something to be worried about? (see video)

    4. Best option for repair? (Re-plate the cylinder, new pistons, gaskets, domes and good to go?)

    Some closing thoughts:

-Rad fluid is blue. (never seen this, any good?)

-Temp. gauge on rad hoze was never near red.

    - always warmed bike up properly.

    - ran very strong in high rpms.

Really appreciate the help. Feeling like a wet dog right now.

  2. Howdy -

<sigh> I've gt low compression on one side of a 421 cub. (150PSI on the left, 105PSI on the right)</sigh>

I'm going to take it apart, but was wondering if it is possible that it could be rings? (kinda hoping here...)

If rings aren't likely responsible for about a 50psi drop, what are my options? Replate? Purchase new jugs and a top-end? Estimated costs and recommended place to buy would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

  3. Hey Guys - thanks for the replies! My bike is down at my buddies (couple hours away) and he assures me that sprocket is being put on correctly. In some photos he sent the sprocket that Rocky M. sent has an inner diameter that appears different. I spoke with Rocky M. again today and they are now sending out a Renthal sprocket. Worth the money - probably not, but a better chance of this fitting, I think so. Hopefully this will solve the problems. For curiosity sake, I have attached a couple of the photos. (tried, but BansheeHQ doesn't accept a 640x480 119kb file. : (

  4. Hey Guys,

Ordered a rear sprocket from Rocky Mountain ATV and it won't fit.

    http://www.rockymountainatv.com/productDetail.do?navType=type&webTypeId=124&navTitle=Drive&webCatId=9&stockId=45958&prodFamilyId=2185#vehicleSelect

After verifying the part #'s (on the packaging & the sprocket itself)they had there Techs look into it. The word is that the sprocket needs to be flipped in order for it to fit. This doesn't make any sense, as the bolt holes won't line up.

Has anyone had this problem with Rocky Mountain ATV before?

Time is of the essence because I have a big trip planned.

    Thanks.

  5. We may be going up that weekend also. I ride a black and white banshee not front fenders and am usually riding with a Polaris Outlaw 500 and a Honda 300ex. It is definitely nicer when it is sunny or at least when it is cooler out. There is no dust out on the dunes, it is a coarse heavy sand. It falls very quick.

    Hey There -

Will look for you. We're a growing group -

I'll be riding an '06 Special Edition Shee (yellow/black). I have a couple buddies on yfz450's, another on a trx250 trike, another Banshee (toomeyshele), on and on. We're staying at Sierra sands. Where are you staying? Have you had any trouble running your T5's at the dunes? I'm guessing you have the hush kit.

  6. Hey Gang,

Myself and some friends are coming from Canada side to ride at Silver Lake September 25th, 26th, 27th. Some of us for the first time! So, I'm madly trying to get some parts together for my bike, including paddle tires. Would be great to meet up with anyone in the area?

    Couple questions -

    1. Some of the guys want to crash a cottage - any recommendations? From what I've learned there are none right on the dunes. (In other words - trucking to get there from a couple miles away)

    2. Paddle Tires - any where you can rent these? (we're coming from over 10 hours away, so we won't be using them a lot. Hard to justify purchasing)

    3. I've posted in the want ads, but I really need a stator. If you have something can you PM me?

    4. Weather wise - does rain ruin the riding? Usually I don't mind rain because it keeps the dust down.

    5. Anything else we should know?

Thanks & hopefully see some of you guys out!

  7. Hi Guys,

I have a Banshee that I cannot get running right. Here is the problem.

Starts fine, but when going through the gears there is a distinctive sputter. Once into the powerband that bike no longer sputters and pulls hard, runs clean, like a Banshee usually does. I've jetted up and down and no longer think this is a jetting issue. This was confirmed by a buddy who's got a built Banshee as well.

    Stock '06

FMF fatty pipes w/ powercore II silencers

    boyeseen reeds

    tors removed

    durablue air filter

    260 mains

    27.5 pilots

Any ideas? Reeds look fine, slightly bending, but no chips, etc. Could this be part of the TORS removal? (electrical issue) There is one wire that must be plugged in for the bike to run. The wires are tiwsted together (to close the loop I think). Electrical issue? Thanks.
