  1. Well, just finished up the first banshee project. Thank you all for all of your replies, help and parts! We took a short ride yesterday and right when I first get into the throttle it feels like I have the clutch pulled in (engaged/disengaged still learning the correct term). Then once I get it in the mid to upper rpms it feels normal or as it should be. I have a small amount on play at the perch, arrows appear to be pretty lined up. Could this just be indicating worn out plates or springs. Im sure it could be all of the above. Ive just never had a clutch "go bad" and dont know what it would feel like if it did or if it was on its way out. All suggestions appreciated! Im am learning and Im soaking up every bit of info I can so I can ride my shee and fix my shee as not all girls can do
  2. The topic and description says it all!
  3. Well, you guys were oh-so-helpful on getting my stapped off screw out of the housing.........worked like a charm! So now Im putting it all back together and cant hold the housing tight enough without it turning to torque down. I was thinking of using a screwdriver as a wedge, but I figured that was asking for something to get jacked up. Do you need a special tool or is there another trick-of-the-trade?
  4. Great suggestion fellas! I suggested drilling and tapping but hubby didnt feel comfortable and thought bolt could be hardened. So by taking it off and drilling from the backside with a smaller bit it will inturn catch the remainder of the bolt and actually start unscrewing it on the front side? Awsome!
  5. What a pain in the ass! I was inspecting/adjusting the clutch and went to torque them down and bolt snapped right off..............oh I was pissed. So either bolt was compromised or my torque wrench is off. Needless to say I now need an inner hub with good clean threads. I just missed one on ebay for 5$. Thanks! Audrey
  6. The motor was running prior to being rebuilt, just very low compression. While everything is connect the arrows on the ARROWS ON THE ARM DONOT LINEUP. The arrow on the arm is 1/8" - 1/4" past the arrow on the case. I did notice that already, and tried disconnecting the cable completely and the arrow on the arm will not line up with the arrow on the case
  7. Just rebuilt the topend of my banshee. Prior to rebuilding the clutch worked fine. While engine was apart I didnt even touch the clutch housing nor did I even disconnect the cable from the engine. Tried to take it for its first run and bike wants to jump forward and die when you put it into gear. When bike isnt running I tried to put it into gear, pull the clutch and roll it..........and it wont roll. Acting like its not disengaging. I tried every adjustment on the pertch. Cable is free. Its pulling the lever all the way back at the motor............still nothing??? So it has me stumped. Why wouldnt it work, if I didnt touch it and it worked fine before???? All suggestions appreciated!

  9. Finally, we finshed up our first banshee stripping right down to the frame. Just need to put new chain and sprockects on and we're good-to-go! Im hoping to go riding this weekend on mine then re-doing it this winter. The first time I road it down the road I noticed quite a shake from the front left side. I parked it and checked the balljoints for play. I noticed the previous owner had a aftermarket nut on the lower A arm and with the bit of play I put 2 and 2 together and figured "well its probably the lower left A arm". Well I replaced that and the rim (which was bent) that helped a bit but still have the play. So if it just sitting there (tires on the floor) I can rock the tire back and forth a bit. It really looks like the play is coming from the bolt that connects the upper A arm to the frame??? Is this possible? What do you think it could be? Also the whell appears to be slightly toed in. Doesnt the control arm adjustment keep the tires equal or does it actually adjust the "plumbness" of the wheel. Im still learning............ Thanks! Audrey
  10. We just bought two banshees that we are stripping to the frames. We are just finishing up the first one and really need a rear shock thats in good condition. I need something thats still very firm/stiff for my hubbys bike since he's 6'4 and 225. The one that is on there now puts him about 12" off the floor when he sits down. Ok maybe not that low but very very low. So please only reply if you know for sure that your shock is still very firm and looking for something affordable since we are working on 2 bikes. I know alot of you guys are swapping them out for elkas and works so hopefully there are some stock ones takin up room in you garage Thanks a ton! Audrey
  11. Thats exactly why I asked what the purpose was since this bike is bone stock. I know for sure its not the cable since we stipped the bike to the frame to check everything over and to restore it. Im sure he probably went with hd springs so I will drain just to make sure he didnt monkey anything up. Thanks for your 2 cents everyone!
  12. What is the benifit of using them? I might want to switch back over to regular ones if possible. Man hands on a lady arnt real sexy..........like sinfield
  13. I just picked this bike up from a guy. He said he just installed new clutch (maybe so/maybe not) anyway Ive ridden alot of bikes and atvs and this is really tough to pull back. Im just thinking that after just a half hour of riding my hand is going to look like "the claw". I tried adjusting it at the lever, after taking it all apart no problems in the line itself. I think somethings outta whack inside the clutch itself? Maybe he overtightened the springs? I have no frickin clue so I guess Im gonna have to drain the tranny and take it apart. Any and all suggestions are appreciated fellas! Thanks in advance! Audrey
  14. I just bought 99 banshee all stock. Took motor apart since there was too much clearence. Guy I bought it from said he rebuilt it twice only because it lost compression. Well, I flipped the head over and it looks all pitted (bad). So, Im guessing he didnt just lose compression. I sure wish everone could be upfront when selling things........ Anyway, I need a good head at a good price by this weekend if possible. I live in Michigan. Thanks! Audrey
  15. Ok, so I definetly wont spend the $$ for a boost bottle. I will try a couple other affordable mods that I have see in other posts to get more power. I think Im gonna try the NOSS cool head or possibly just milling the stock one a bit, slip on a K&N and...................well just have to see what left in the budget. We bought 2 that were in need of TLC so we are replacing plastic, wheel & tires and other bits and pieces.........they all add up. Oh I think Im gonna look into aftermarket water pump impeller too! Also I heard there was some tool to help keep carbs in senque that FAST has?????
  16. Going through one of two banshees we just purchased and the chain and sprocket are junk. So Im looking to find a set possibly on ebay and had a few questions. What is your opinion regarding O ring and non O ring? We will be trail riding along wth the dunes. This banshee is stock with the possible exception of a boost bottle which we are still debating on since it will have stock exhaust ........do you think it will still help with low end? Which leads me to the next question of what would be a good sprocket combo to get a litte more torque from the bottom end? Since we have a 4+ swingarm do you have to buy a special chain for it, or do the regular ones have enough slack? And last but not least............I luv 2 strokes! I went from riding a cr250 race bike to this banshee. A relative of mine says "Oh, why did you buy a banshee............they are notorious for leaning out one one side!" "Unless you plan on riding wide open all the time you will spend more time rebuilding it than riding." So me being the the headstrong girl that I am went and bought another one just to prove a point. Two strokes are EZ to work on, EZ to rebuild, and can really take a beating. So what are your thoughts? Im thinking if they do have problems with one cylinder maybe its because of the carb falling out of sequence???? If this is true any way to fix the issue??? Thanks! Audrey
  17. I appreciate it but this restoration is being done on a budget. I think I found a place that does custom graphics for around $85 for a set so I will see what they can sketch up for me.
  18. Thats cool, Ill give them a try if I cant come up with anything already being sold. Im sure if will be hard to come by since there aren't a ton of pink banshees. I'm just looking to do something different and since Im girl............well pink fits. I think it will look hot as Im wheeling thru the dunes
  19. Ok just purchased 98 banshee and and going through everything from the frame up. I really like nice clean lines so Im going with metallic charcoal paint on the frame, a arms, axle, hubs and handle bars. I am using white plastic with a black tank and would love to find some hot graphics to really set it off. I think pink with a lighter silver, white and black would look awesome but I cant find anything other than sherides.com. Any suggestions? Im thinking I will probably have to go custom if there arent any kits available for the banshee. Let me know if you know of any reasonable graphics designers I should talk to. Would also like some seat cover to match. Thanks!! Audrey
  20. I purchased one thank you!
  21. My balljoint is shot so Im looking for some with good tight balljoint. Thanks! -Audrey *please specify year and overall condition.
  22. Im interested in a arms, pipes w/ silencers, and front bumper if the other guy doesnt buy it. Let me know what prices are and shipping. Thanks! Audrey [email protected] zipcode 49337
