  1. 5.80s NO, but I wish! I will explain that reply a little better this weekend.
  2. Now, if you or anyone else is serious about the asphalt. The 1st thing you need to do is contact your local tracks in your area that you wish to run. Make sure you talk with the track manager's & head tech guy's. Explain to them what you are wanting to do & the capabilities of these things in both the 1/8 & 1/4 mile (high 5s 1/8 & high 9s 1/4 mile). Just because NHRA or IHRA say you can run in the rulebook. The track can still turn you away. As for outlaw tracks, pretty much anything goes, but they are mostly on the East Coast. Now, how fast are you wanting to go, what size motor do want & 1/8 or 1/4 mile? Let me know the results of the track discussions & the above sentence questions. Then I'll start a Asphalt Thread For Dummies or you can start it.
  3. I don't know what a smaller jockey would run. We have never needed to do that. There's really much more to a race than a lightweight jockey. Most of their heads weigh more than their bodies, because the heads are swollen. When it comes down to the money rounds, most of them choke in some form or fashion. This motor will be much faster than the 443 with about 40-60 more runs. All the pictures in this thread & last 4 in the gallery are this years set-up. What pics are you looking for? LOL! yes that's our pit scooter. Would you like to see pics of our pit quad also?
  4. 535 built/ported by my Son. I put a conservative race gas, ignition curve & chassis set-up for the 1st race. Our track is 3-4 tenths slower than most tracks due to elevation, heat & very little vegetation (O2 percentages). Anyway, our best time at our track with the 443 in this chassis with me riding was 10.39 with my best tune. This new set-up with my Son riding 2nd pass out it ran 10.57 with a safe tune-up. We have some changes coming for this set-up to get the ET quicker & we have to work on the MPH also, it's pretty low. We started in late 2004. NHRA rules state a stock frame, but ours is lightened a little. I see no problem with building a chromoly look alike. We have talked with a few chassis guys about building one. Just haven't found the need for it yet. We maybe heavy, but we are still fast.
  5. This is an answer to question from PM. I have never used this set-up. It's better than no launch limiter, but not the way we like to adjust. The diagram is supposed to work on a Banshee & a few have done it using it. I hate posting something I have not done or used. Hope it works for whomever.
  6. Most of our regular bike guy's are pretty cool about it. Yesterday, we had some newbie's & one got pretty pissed when he got beat in the 2nd round. Here's my Son with the quad.
  7. Win for the quad!
  8. Some of my topics come from PMs. I kind of hit on this in this thread & stressed it in a PM this morning. Launch Limiter.......!!!!!!!!!! Is it needed for a properly set-up clutch? You make the choice & this is a classic example that happened to us yesterday. While we had a new combination testing yesterday & only 4 runs on it. The launch limiter worked for 3 runs. The last run I made an adjustment to the clutch lever stop. That caused the clutch lever switch not to activate the launch limiter. My son tried to replicate the launch rpm, but I'm sure he missed it. The results were, the run was 2 tenths slower than the 2 previous runs. So, you make the choice!
  9. LOL! No other quads, but it would be nice to have some other's. We run with the motorcycles & have between 10 - 30 in the class.
  10. Well, it was a zoo at the track today! Made some nice & easy runs on the quad & hoopty/demo Camaro. I got 1 vid of the car & quad, but for some reason I can't download the quad video. I was able to get a couple pics downloaded. I only got 2 runs on the Camaro today. It went 10.21 @ 132 on a check out pass. The vid below it went 10.14 @ 133. Both passes was with a conservative tune-up. This was the 1st time on radial slicks. http://vid143.photobucket.com/albums/r143/BLK1700/Clutch%20Tuning%20Video/CamaroRadialSlicks_zpsfausiwsx.mp4
  11. Heading for T&T today & 1st points race tomorrow. Hope to find time for a few pics/vid of the quad & hoopty Camaro.
  12. Thanks for the words of encouragement & I agree with the motor set-up. I don't know about the N20, but I'm in the right company to do that!
  13. I don't think so, but if I would of known of the plate issue I would have started with the billet cases.
  14. That's what you get for thinking, 2 weeks lead time as of this past week.
  15. Wheelman only warned me of the case warp with the crank bores with the welding being done. As for Green warning me, it was after the motor was built. So, like all the other's I decided to let if fly. Then after the fact, the specifics came out about the plate problem. I'm by far a 300' expert. Nick Bennett went from stock case DMX to holding the world record with billet. So, according to wannabe know it all advice. Nick should have zero business with a DMX! I'm in no way implying that will be my case, no pun intended.
  16. You know, I didn't expect that comment from you! Maybe some other's on the BHQ. I take no outs & many have told me to sell it. That's not who/how I am! It was a decent running combo when it was on the track. It was only outrun a few times. 1 of those was when it was entered in the next class up, 651-775. I'm sure it was quick enough to beat 98% of the bikes on BHQ. Including the self proclaimed know it all's that have never ran 300'. Whenever, I get around to buying the Billet cases & get back to 300' with it. I'll welcome anyone to come show me how it's done. This thread was a review as intended, good, in between or bad! It told the truth with no sugar coating. I should have listened to specific reasons given early by a few about the stock cases. Wheelman (Chris) was the one & only to tell me before the build about the problems. I wish or thought K&T would have informed me about that. I also didn't realize Green had said something early in this thread, but heard him later in the thread & also Nick Bennett.
  17. Well, we was trying to get the DMX ready for the BAKO Sand Drags for the end of Feb. The adapter plate separated from the cases. It's getting billet cases whenever we make it a priority again, until then it's on the back burner.
  18. You/we need to know what tires you are running to match the proper rim to the tire. Plus, in order to figure that out you need to fill in a lot more blanks on your set-up to get the proper recommendation.
  19. We have used both on the track for 300', 1/8 & 1/4 mile. The Dyna is quicker/faster with the proper curve, but we use the launch limiter & shift light also. Both the launch limiter & shift light help, but is the total gain from them only? I don't think so, but the only way to test that is to hook both up to a stock ignition with the timing plate. Just for information, based of our findings. Our best dyno tunes on the quad(s) & our other drag race vehicle(s). Never equated to the quickest & fastest times at the track.
  20. camatv brings up some good points! While dome cc is important, there are other factors as he has brought up. We ran our cub with squish tighter than camatv's recommendations. Our 7mm revved to the moon, stayed together, wasn't a dyno star, but didn't run on lesser fuels. The OP stated race fuel, there are many different ways to set the domes up for that. Does that make camatv, or I, right or wrong with our opinion. We both use what works for our applications. Many different ways to skin a cat. IMO, your best bet is to have a known builder design/machine custom domes for your application.
  21. On our race gas 443 cub we ran 20cc & 21cc domes. The quad was competitive with a heavy stock frame (320 lbs.) & a heavy rider (210-220 lbs.), it ran low 3.90s & was faster with a lighter rider. It was run on Q16 race fuel the majority of the time. It's first & only time at Gilbert, LA. It made the semi-finals in 426-525cc heads-up class against chassis/alky bikes. It also, made the semis in the bracket class & went a bunch of rounds in an index class.
  22. I wouldn't stray from a 14/41 sprocket combo. We have played with the gearing a couple times on our play quad. The best times & mph have come with the 14/41 combo & a 20.5 dia. tire. My son weighs 210-220. Our best mph in the 1/8 was 80 mph & 1/4 mile 92 mph. I think most of the information is in the thread below. http://bansheehq.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=173690&page=3
  23. OK! I should have thrown in the carbon fiber frictions while I was at it, but didn't want to get to far off base.
  24. 3 weeks away for the season open race Feb. 15 with the 1st T&T the day prior. Have a lot of new things/changes to work out in the car & quad. Today we spent the day setting up clutch, Dyna ignition & a lot of little things. I baselined the clutch today, but not too many changes from where it was. The 1st thing was to measure the spring installed height, weigh the arm weight & checked the air gap. We loosened the base pressure, kept the arm weights the same & tightened the air gap .016. We also installed new FAST frictions & plates. We are also trying 10w30 synthetic motor oil for the 1st time. The Dyna set-up is a little different for this motor. We are using one of our milder cub curves to start out. The biggest changes was the launch rpm & the shift rpm. We lowered both 1,000 rpm from the cub settings. Hopefully this gives us a good baseline & competitive set-up for the 1st points race.
  25. We run these fuels because we have to for 1/4 mile. When we run shorter distances we get more aggressive with the tune with those fuels. If we only ran shorter distances we would probably do more testing with lower octane fuels & not so aggressive with the tune-ups.
