What are the best pipes for a '01 banshee with new reeds as its only mod if i want it for lowend...
-
i just checked out the hole in the cover and from a glance it doesnt look stripped, but i try to put in a brand new stock dip stick and it wont go past a quarter of a turn?? Can that still mean a billet dip stick will work? or does it have to be the cover because a brand new one wouldnt go in. I dont know if it makes a difference or not but it isnt a stock yamaha clutch cover its just plain black it looks like a generic aftermarket cover.

I recently bought a '01 banshee, and when i went to check the tranny fluid the dip stick wouldnt go back in the hole because its stripped. So i used pliers to force it in the hole and its worked fine for a month now, but today i went up to silver lake to ride the dunes and the tranny fluid started to leak out. Is there a simple fix for this or do i have to buy a whole brand new clutch cover? If you think i need a new cover does any one have a link to where i can get one online? Thanks!

Whats the easiest way to remove the bolt for the engine mount? Theres only a little bit of room i can barely fit my hands in, do i have to remove the exhaust? And are the nerf bars supposed to fit perfect or do they have to be bent a little?

Ill take the pipes and the silencers for $250 with shipping to western michigan.

Where in the world is the Air leak!

the compression in both cylinders is around 125-130 so im pretty sure its not the head gasket, it has to be one of the rubber boots around the carbs -

Last week i just replaced the reeds, and yes they were bad, but theres still an air leak somewhere else -
When i start up the quad it starts at a normal idle and then revs up high then shuts off on its own. And it has been overheating lately, im guessing because its running rich and i have been going through sparkplugs left and right. So it must be an air leak but i cant seem to find one any where, any ideas?

Wont start, Head gasket?
silverlakeshee01 replied to silverlakeshee01's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Ha, im sorry... Right before i replaced the reeds i checked the compression and it was at 125 in both cylinders, i wasnt sure if that was normal, high, or low. After i installed the new reeds i put a little bit of gas in both carbs to help it start, after it was all back together it started on like the 8th or so kick and it ran good. I took it out and rode it for about half an hour the next day and when i went to park it, it had a huge cloud of smoke coming out of the radiator. I went to start it about 2 days after that and when i kick it over it will kick but it wont start. So now im at a loss of what it could be -

Im not sure it if can be the head gasket then because when my friend was over when i was replacing the reeds he brought his compression testor and they were both between 125 and 130... so what the heck could it be now?? -

what should the compression be in a normal working shee with no mods? -

It feels like it has a little compression, but not enough so it must be the headgasket. Quick question- before i pull off the cover to the water pump to look at the impeller do i have to drain the coolant? -

yeah it didnt run before i replaced them, when i took em out they were shot -
My shee has been acting funny lately, like 1st gear bogs down and does have much throttle range. I just went out to start it and when i kick it over nothing happens, it doesnt even sound like its close to starting. I just recently replaced the reeds and when i was putting it back together i put a little bit of gas in the carbs to help it start and it started fine then but now 3 days later it wont start. Is it the head gasket and theres no compression? and it has been overheating lately, does that go hand and hand with the head gasket going bad?

Im sorry but im not that mechanically inclined but im getting there, what do you mean by the main jet and drop the clip on the needle?

whats a good web site to buy an aftermarket water pump at? If i am running lean i have to adjust the screws that are on top of the carbs with a flat head correct? Which way do they have to turn? Thanks

I just went out and checked the quad again i am so confused i looked over everything and cant figure it out...

My 01 shee has been overheating a little bit here and there but today i took it out and did a few doughnuts on wet pavement and when i parked it a pretty good size cloud of smoke poured out of the radiator and off of the pipes and it was dripping coolant out of the radiator onto the pipes. I checked the coolant in the raditator and its topped off and also in the resevour under the seat. It had performance reeds on it that just went bad a couple of days after i bought it. I bought all stock reeds yesturday and changed them out and their working fine now, when i had the the engine torn down i also did a compression test on both cylinders and they are fine so im almost positive its not the head gasket. any ideas on why its overheating so much?? thanks!
