  1. I'm just curious is you guys think that porting is the best mod for a banshee or not? It seems that from what I have heard, giving your banshee a MX port job is better than any other single mod out there (IE: tuned pipes/silencers). What are your guy's thoughts on this? Thanks! - Matthew
  2. Don't worry its fun once you get used to it I can only do it on my bike though, since I have only driven my shee twice since I got it basically. My bike only has 5 gears though. Hell I can start off in a wheelie in first gear, and ride the same wheelie all the way into 5th. It will keep the front end up for a LONG ways in 5th gear too
  3. OK I do know that the stock main jet for my 2002 banshee is a #200, according to the manual. But the POS doesn't say what the stock pilot jet size is! Anyone here know? Also, I was told by a member here that if I put on pro circuit pipes & silencers (my banshee is 100% stock, and I'm only putting pipes on it), then I'll have to switch to #280 main jets, and #27.5 pilots. Doesn't this seem like a huge step up in sizes for just putting on pipes? Lastly, what increments do the jet sizes go up/down in??? like for instance, what is the next step up from a #200 main? like 210 or something? And what about the pilot? Thanks a million guys!
  4. I'm gonna bump this one up, as the last question in this thread seemed like a good one.
  5. Half the people say the CR beats the KX 500 and then the other half says that the KX 500 beats the CR They are probably clones just like all the other MX bikes (atleast for the most part). Allthough depending on the year some are better than others, but you can remedy that with the proper mods. I did hear that the KX has more top end and the CR has more low end power. My dream is to be able to ride wheelies as good as the guy riding the CR 500 in the video LOL!!!
  6. ROFL!!! man I watched that video like 15 times ina row with tears running down my cheeks. That has to be one of the funniest video's I've ever seen LOL! LOL I'll have to tell my friend that you found a video of him riding a wheelie on a CR Man thats gonna be me someday though But I'll be smart enough to have all my MX gear on; hopefully it will only break a bone or 2 rather than tear half my skin off
  7. Actually my banshee can only do wheelies at like 30 or 40 MPH, and yes, without friggin pulling back or anything stupid like that. Hell, I don't even get it bouncing or anything, I just gun it. This is on pavement though, and its in 3rd gear. Also, I only weigh 160 lbs. As for mods, my banshee is STOCK. The only thing that ISN't stock is the ITP holeshot tires. The thing is pretty much brand new though, and still has TONS of compression.
  8. Calm down already you flamers I didn't say I BELEIVED the guy that said he wheelied at 80 mph, but I'm sure he was going pretty fast when he did it. But to whoever says a KX 500 wont do 100 mph stock, I'm pretty sure you are wrong, as I have seen many people say that have clocked these bikes at 102 mph, along with the CR 500. And who WOULDN'T wanna ride a wheelie at 80 MPH? Hell I'd do it if I friggin had a machine that could. Once I get a KX 500 I will have to try it Course I probably wont be alive after a couple weeks of riding
  9. Well I admit I was pretty skeptical, and no, it really DOESN'T seem very realistic obviously, but the guy that told me this isn't really one to BS. He said it could wheelie in 6th gear, so I'm going to assume since it was geared up, that he was doing ATLEAAST like 60 or so. As for where we do wheelies on pavement. Well, we live in Vermont, and there is alot of straight shot low traffic tar roads around here Yea sometimes people call the cops, but owell I can't wait to get a KX 500 dirtbike. I'm pretty sure those will wheelie at 80MPH STOCK. Hell, they do 102 MPH stock. I know people that have had them clocked Just my KX 250 can pull wheelies in 5th gear, and at like 50-60 MPH. Everyone knows dirtbikes are way faster than quads though. More fun IMO too Sorry had to say that lol! I do like my banshee though, but I'll always like dirtbikes the best since they have more power and excellerate quicker. Quads usually have more top speed, but good luck catching back up after eating the bikes dust Or of course if you are racing a 500cc motocross bike then its hopeless; they do 100 mph stock
  10. I have a friend that said he rode a banshee with a single carb, and a couple other mods too I guess. He said the thing was geared up and could do wheelies on pavement at 80 mph! My stock 2002 banshee only does wheelies in 1st - 3rd gear on pavement, so I guess it only does wheelies at about 30 or 40 mph or so. Also note that me and my friend don't pull back or do any of that stupid crap when we wheelie; if you have a good machine you shouldn't have to do stupid crap like that Anyways, I am getting pro circuit pipes & silencers (the silencer that gives it more top end, not the shorty ones), and I was wondering if you guys think it will make it wheelie better at higher speeds and in higher gears. Also, what mods are the best for high speed wheelies? Do single carbs make it wheelie much better becuase they boost the low end? Thanks!
  11. Can you test the pilot jet by listening to how fast the banshee idles, based on how far in or out the air screw is turned? With a motocross dirtbike you can do this; if it idles at its fastest with the air screw turned out 2.5 turns or more, then you need a bigger (richer) pilot jet. If it idles at its fastest with the air screw like half a turn in, then you need a smaller (leaner) pilot jet. By defualt the bike I have has the air screw turned 1.5 turns out, and I beleive the banshee is 2 turns out by defualt. Also, how do you do the ride and feel method with a banshee to set the air screw at optimal? Do you just put it in 1st, and give it a quick throttle snap from idle too 1/4 throttle, and turn the air screw to the point that gives best throttle response?
  12. Do you do the plug chop the same way with a banshee that you do with a motocross dirtbike? With a dirtbike you run it WOT in 4th or 5th gear for about 20 seconds, then kill the engine without letting the bike idle down or even slow down. Next you either look down into the plug (the base of the porcilin insulator that is behind the threads, using a magnafying glass with light), or you simply cut off the threaded area of the plug. If the main jet is the correct size then you should have a carbon ring that is 1-3 mm high, extending from the base of the insulator upwards toward where the electrode sticks out. Is this how you test the main jet with a banshee?
  13. Hey guys, I was just wondering if jetting a banshee is the same as jetting a motocross dirtbike? I have a KX 250 and I know how to jet it, but is it exactly the same method as a banshee? You only have 3 things to tinker with, as in the pilot, main jet, and needle jet, correct? And is there an air screw that is for the pilot jet as well? Also, lean jetting = bogging, pinging, and possible engine seizure, correct? And Rich jetting = "crackling" at differnt RPM's, excessive smoke, and fouling plugs, correct? Lastly, do you use the same "ride and feel" method to find the correct jetting for the pilot/needle jet, as you would with a dirtbike?
  14. Ok, I'm sure most of you are sick of the same old jetting questions, but I feel that I have a unique question here, and I have never seen anyone ask this so far. Here goes.... I know its possible to burn up an engine with the jetting to lean, and I'm assuming it will burn up in the high RPMs/WOT, but what about the LOW rpm range? Like in the pilot jet range. I know dirtbikes have only 2 jets to tinker with (slow jet & main jet), but what about banshee's? how many jets do those have? And yes, I'm aware that I left out the needle jet; I don't plan on ever messing around with that (why bother, it justs make it so you now have THREE jets to friggin mess with). I have a stock 2002 banshee that I want to put pro circuit pipes & silencers on. I'm guessing I may have to tinker with the main jets after, but I'm wondering if its going to lean out my pilot jet and burn up my engine if I put around on trails at very low rpm's. Also, do plug chops and carbon rings work the same as with MX dirtbikes? With those, you run it WOT for about 15-20 seconds, then kill the engine, and then you have to cut off the threaded area of the plug and look at the carbon ring at the bottom of the white insulator (and it should have a carbon ring that is 1-3 mm long, extending UP from the base of the insulator) Lastly, does anyone bother tuning the pilot jet with banshee's? and if so, what do you look for? do you try and get the best lowend power/response without burning up the engine? Thanks for any help!
  15. Hey guys. I am new here. I recently bought a 2002 banshee in mint condition off of e-bay for $3,300. I am a dirt bike person (I also have a mint 2002 KX 250), but I am starting a collection of toys (now I just need a KX 500, 250R 3 wheeler, and quadracer 500), so I couldn't resist buying a banshee for such a great price. Anyways, this thing is 100% stock, other than the holeshot tires. I like to keep my stuff all stock except for things like handlebars, tires, and pipes. Pipes are the ONLY engine mod I will bother doing. And of course I will jet it too, if need be. As stated, I will be going with pro circuit pipes & silencers. My question is this: do you guys think this will make a big difference in power & top speed? I have read ALOT of posts here on this matter, and one of them said putting on pc pipes made the shee go like 8 mph faster, and also broadened the power band, which was good for pulling wheelies. I LOVE riding wheelies, so this is definitely what I'm looking for. I am 160 lbs and on pavement my stock shee pulls wheelies in 1st through 3rd gear, but not 4ths & up this is alot different than my kx 250 dirtbike, as that thing can pull wheelies in its top gear (5th), and the thing is 100% stock, not even piped. Do you think I can pull wheelies in more gears with the pc pipes & silencers? Lastly, do you think I will have to re-jet after putting on pro circuit pipes? Will I have to richen or lean it out? Thanks a million for any help, its greatly appreciated! - Matthew
