What type of oil was he using? 40:1 or 32:1 are pretty popular.
He was running Bel-Ray oil. Will I foul plugs if I just switch to 40:1?
-
Just picked up a banshee and he said he does 2 ounces of oil to every gallon of gas which is 64:1. I have owned banshees before and usually ran like 32:1 or 40:1 roughly. Why would he run so little oil? It does puff blue. What should I do?

So jealous of you guys! Let's see some pics of the trails and scenary!

I live in waukesha county and pretty much any time I want to go riding, I have to plan a little get away and head up north quite a ways. I think my favorite so far is the Dead Horse Run in Ashland County. Otherwise if I don't have much time I go to Black River Falls, very busy during weekends, especially holidays so beware and plan around them or accordingly. Hit me up sometime as I am always looking for new people to go riding with.

or you can do what i do, say who gives a shit and try to get it as cheap as possible and then go through the entire bike yourself... I would recommend that anyways. especially if your Gf is going to be on it thats the last thing you want is to see her get hurt because you did not go through the bike..
I completely agree, its always best to get things as cheap as possible. But I don't want something catostrophic to be wrong with it that I could have spotted. I will check it over fully when I get home, check the brakes, bearings and bushings. Along with doing the proper maintaince no matter of when they tell me it was done last. I am just glad banshees have been around forever and parts are relatively cheaper and easily attainable.

Do you think he'll let you check the compression, I usually don't ask when buying a bike.
As long as it kicks over on the first or second kick, thats usally a good indication that the bike is jetted properly, and has good compression.
I also try to look at and inspect most of the visible gaskets make sure it doesnt look like thyre leaking, same thing on the crank case, make sure there arent any oil leaks. And no leaks again on the coolant system. Also, if you can, wobble the tires, make sure the hub bearings and axle bearings are tight.
If you can take it for a short ride, or ask the owner to, and make sure everything sounds and shifts good.
Thanks for the advice. I am hoping he will allow a quick compression test as I will take the wrench and guage. Only takes a few mins to do.

Ok I found a banshee not to far away that I am going to go take a look at on tuesday. Its an 01 that is all stock other than Trinity Racing pipes and silencers. The pics of it make it look really nice and he says its 100% ready to ride and needs nothing. Newer top end which was done 3 yrs ago, but only had it out a couple times do to lack of time, same reason for selling it.
What should I look out for and beware of:
Compression? What should it be cold or hot?
Common weak spots?
Common issues?
This isn't my first quad nor my first banshee but buying this for my girlfriend to ride when we go out, I do not want a basket case, as I will never hear the end of it.

If you are just touching it up with the same color, I guess it could be possibly. Such as touching up the boot scuffs on the sides.

I recently bought my gf a suzuki ltr to ride since stock it was wide and low so it would be safe. Well we are not together any more so its time to free up some money.
Asking 4300 obo can remove certain parts for less cash and can add cash to a trade if need be.

I have owned numerous banshees, and all the top manufacturers 450s. I will say that each has there own ups and downs, same with "common problems". In my opinion, the yfz is the best of the bunch, I have owned: 2-'04s, 1-'05, 1-'06, and 1-'07. As far as problems, I really haven't had any, my '05 had the common coolant leak which is a simple fix. As the oil problem goes, none of the older ones had the problems so I never felt the concern, and if it does concern you it can be addressed with a 200ish dollar fix. I would/will never buy a trx450r again, every problem that could have happened...happened. The ltr450 I haven't had a problem with and do like the machine quite a bit but want to keep things uniformed and ride all the same. There are a few simple/little things suzuki could have done better on the ltr.
P.S There is nothing better than just adding straight gas, no dicking around wiht oil and fouled plugs.

I'm in baltimore, MD. Those pics were taken on sunday by a guy at the atlantic grand prix. I'll get you some fresh closer up pics. Now your yfz is set up for mx what would I need to do to it for xc type racing? Is it ready for that?
Larger tires/skid plates etc. It may be a bit wide for xc racing as well.

I've got a 2004 LE black banshee. Just did a harescramble on sunday and learned I needed a four stroke. Quad isn't in as good of condition as NY banshee but its got:
stock internals
Pro Design Intake
Toomey Chrome T-5's
AC Racing Nerfs
ITP-Holshots
Hide-a-Key
Still have stock pipes and stock rear rims.
I'd do straight up trade and $2,000 cash

Interested in the paddles, and possibly the razrs

Whatcha guys think?? Should I consider it?
Make some cash offers guys, cash talks right now! I need a new car so able to take trade on that as well, cash either way.
-
Meet you half way? LOL
Possibly, you willing to add some cash?
-
I wish I would have seen this thread earlier, I would have totally been there! Always wanted to try it out and a group outing would have been a perfect excuse to go!! How is the mx track they just built not that long ago?
P.S Why can I only view some vids and others it says I can't?
-
Finally a few posts on the bike...lol
To answer some questions:
I have three 450 quads right now and a sled I just bought, I need to reduce the heard.
I don't race and do very little riding on a track so this seems like the logical one to let go
Always good to free up some cash, so if traded would like some cash on top which makes sense
As for a banshee I want something obviously nice with mods, but perfer no internal mods
I would definately work out a trade for that black banshee MarineNYC! That is kinda what I am looking for if I do trade if off.
P.S Thanks for all the compliments the quad is a beast and runs at the top of the game!!!
Another pic of it that for some reason I really like:
-
Bump 5500 obo! Will trade for banshee with cash possibly.

Add this guy to the list ::
See that thing is when I sold the quad it was fine, I owned it for about two weeks total and drove it twice. The day I got it and one other day. Had a guy come look at it when I put it forsale and he loved it put needed to sell his other quad first. Two days later no driving time on it I sold it to him, the axle nuts must not have been tightened down when I got it and yes one flew off and I noticed when I was going to meet this guy and told him about it. I smoked my buddies banshee with it and put probably 1 hr on it in the time I owned it.

I picked up a banshee and he was running Bel-Ray oil mixed 60:1. I like to be on the safe side, if I mix 40:1 will I foul plugs?
