Are the slides set to the same height on both carbs, or is one higher, and one lower?
-
Needles, and seats above the floats are plugged, or stuck, or the pilots are dirty. Pilots need to be removed to clean them right.
-
I've got a set, and the one thing I had to do was change the needle jet from a Q-2 to a Q-0.

Stay away from rattle can Ray, aka Minkia38. Contact one of the forum sponsors, and buy from them. You'll get your questions answered, good parts, and much better support.

Problem is, 95% of the people on the FB group couldn't handle it here. Most them left because they were too soft
Then I guess it's tough shit for those that can't handle it here. Most of those on FB are just a bunch of smart ass mo-fo's anyways, with nothing to add to a conversation except stupid comments.

Shut the FB group down, and tell the others to come back to the forums.

Well, I was wrong. it was carb relatated.
dropped down to 165s for shits and giggles. bout shit my pants when i took it down the road and it didn't stop spinning the tires till 5th gear.
it doesn't seem to be doing it as much anymore. but it did it when the carbs were brand new untouched aswell.
maybe the needles just weren't seating in the seats quite perfect.
Could be. Maybe it's time to pull them apart, and make sure they are clean, before going any further.

reving it up in neutral. leaks a couple drops then stops at idle.
It shouldn't be leaking any fuel, unless something is wrong with the carbs, or the bike has been tipped.

It also leaks fuel out the overflow when at idle or reving it up in neutral.
Needles, and seats not shutting off fuel coming into carb bowls. Makes them run rich. Fix that, and you'll be able to finally get your main dialed in. -
Put a metal spacer between the pipe hanger, and the frame.
-
Remove the fuel petcock from the tank, and clean the screens.

If the FMF Fatty's are in good shape, I'd run them. I used to run them, and they were a good pipe for me.

Hard starting when it's cold is a sign that it's lean. Replace the choke tube, and if that doesn't help, then go to 30 pilot jets.
-
Are you wanting to run race gas, or pump gas?
-
Factory replacement frames from Yamaha don't have a VIN on them.
-
Clymer's is better.
-
Buy a Clymer's manual for it, and read through it a few times. That's the best place to start.

I'm running the Driveline HP 421 setup, and it's been great.
-
Go with the Driveline cylinders, and be done with it.
-
A Banshee engine weighs under 100 pounds, while an R1 engine, depending on the year will weigh any where between 418-448 pounds. That's a helluva weight difference.
-
If everything else is right on it, your hard starting issue when it's cold sounds like it's too lean on the pilot jet.

@hoppedupandcutdown, thanks. I dont know what the previous owner used. Im going to start with a 280 main and 25 pilot as that is what Toomey suggests for the t5s. I will find out whats in the carbs tomorrow when I take them apart to clean them. My elevation is around 500ft and temp is cool to mild right now. Toomey says that the 280 main is good up to 2500ft and even into warmer temps. Cold temps, drop to 270 main. I will open them up and find out if I need to order jets. Thanks for the info. @Keno,thanks. Im going to start there at 40:1, thanks.
In colder temps you'll need a bigger main, not a smaller one, unless you want to burn it up. Colder temps=bigger jets, and warmer temps=smaller jets.

I take it your mikunis have a larger bowl as well? Or you running the factory mikuni bowls that the 34’s come with? But alright well dual pingel it is. Saves me some vacuum line running and tapping lol
how do you like the 421 with the 34mm? Any dyno graph to show hp/tq curve? What kinda riding do you do?
Stock Mikuni bowls, and no it hasn't been dyno'd. I ride at Little Sahara State Park in Waynoka, OK, so it's sand. It's also got CPI inframes on it. It's more of an all around bike. Not just drag, or not just play, or not just trails. It's set up for the type of riding I do, and I'm very happy with it. Pro mod trans by CamATV, and he also put the motor together. He went completely through the trans, did some work on the cylinders, replaced the crank bearings, and a few other odds, and ends.
