needs some major help? what would make it run like crap, then throttle cable snaps? it was missing out when running.

took my shee out for a spin, it sputtered in midrange, and highend. took it back to the house, was messing with it. Pushing the throttle in and out, and pop, the throttle cable broke. what could have caused this. please help. going to the sand dunes tommorrow...
