  1. This thing really has minimal riding time on it, but id go for a carb rebuild kit (or 2). How would I go about adjusting my floats. You can get technical with me and i will get it...just am still learning about how carbs work.
  2. Ive been having alot of trouble getting my jetting right latley and I think im closer to the problem. First, it seels like the main jet is controlling too much of the idle fuel curve. Its like my pilots do nothing. By that I mean the mixture screws dont do a thing when I adjust them in/out whatever. The choke also seems to have little effect on how it runs. It smokes alot at idle but when I run it wide open alot it definitley goes lean and overheats to the point I fowl a plug. So Im thinking maybe the needles arent sealing the mains shut at idle like they should be. I dont know if this is normal, but unless I shut my fuel off, the thing leaks gas (like a puddle will form in 5 minutes) A little about the ride: 2004 banshee. Stock motor. 4 deg timing advance. No airbox, dual k&n cones. Stock carbs. 300 mains 27.5 pilots, stock needles in the middle position. FMF Fattie pipes and silencers. TORS removal kit. Its about 10 degrees outside at near sea level. Would it be a good idea to just get PWK's? What size should I get?
  3. yea im just about sea level, thats why it baffles me that im needing such small jets. maybe ur right about the needles doing it. the quad is an 04 and i really have not ridden it much at all so id be astounded if the crank seals were bad unless it happened when i overheated it. im waiting for a carb boot that i lost to come in from the yamaha stealership on wed. then ill pick up some 230 and 240 jets. We'll see if that makes it perfect cuz i really am close with the 25 pilot and 260 main. I gotta tell you that CFM airbox i got off ebay is totally pimp. got that installed the other day and it looks great. I just dont know why they didnt drill holes in the bottom...had to do that myself.
  4. Regarding the white lightning: Dont use it on a quad. Itd be great on a street bike, but its very weak and flakey. It will come right off in the dirt. The reality is we need to use a "wet" style lube and clean it after every ride. Thats what if comes down to. Dirs IS gonna stick to it as long as it is able to stay on the chain. theres just no way around it.
  5. yep oil definitley spits out. that would happen when its rich tho too dontcha think? but yea like i cant rev it with it facing my truck or i get oil on my door. are there any other checks for the crank seal?
  6. Yea I dont know why it smoked more when i reached 3 turns out. maybe its cuz i went too far out with it? so it runs great actually. its fast and doesnt overheat. runs smooth. I got it to idle good now. stock pilots, needle at one clip up from stock (leaner) and 260 mains. 1.5 turns out on screws. Its great except its still rich on top. when I rev it up real high it just billows smmoke till it comes back down in revs. Im gonna try some 230s and 240s this afternoon. It just doesnt make sense to me that everyone else is running such fatter jetting than me. It is 90 degrees now tho...O and no i havent done a compression test. ill see if i can get a hold of a gauge. oh and :baseball_bat:
  7. got my airbox in from cfm. nice piece, highly reccomended. But make sure u drill holes at the bottom cuz its gonna fill up with water. so it still smokes like hell. on the 27.5 pilots when i move from 2 to 3 turns out it smokes even thicker. shouldnt it smoke less? do I have a bigger problem like a head gasket? I do remember awhile ago that i overheated it due to jeting and i had white smoke coming out of the pipes. Now the smoke isnt white like that tho. its definitley the smoke of being rich.
  8. holy crap. that would be so rich for me. i cant wait for my airbox to come so i can get to the bottom of this.
  9. oh i forgot i have vitos performance needles too. i havent checked the plugs cuz there is nowhere i can ride that fast anywhere near my house and since the quad doesnt work right, i cant take it to a place i ride in the woods. kinda shitty eh? im not sure on the mains cuz ive had so much trouble with getting it to idle. i did find out tho that u need to have your airbox ON if you plan on test riding or it runs crappy. i have one of those cfm performance aluminum boxes coming shortly. the pimp. ill keep posting what i find out when i play with it this weeknd.
  10. So ive been having a problem jetting my fatties. no airbox lid and pro design cone filter. tors eliminated. currently 27.5p and 280m. At idle its so rich. smokes heavy and runs rough. pulling out the choke stalls it. its rich. it clears out in the powerband so the mains are ok. any ideas? what could be going on here? :baseball_bat: :baseball_bat: :baseball_bat:
  11. well, its running now...lol, i was working on it with the airbox off completley...
  12. i dont know why im so horrible at this, but i have pro design pro flo filter - no lid tors removed, fattys with pcII. 500ft elev. fmf reccoments 30 pilot with 260 jets with lid on. i tried 260 280 290 310 and they all sucked but i really didnt even get into the powerband....its the idle i cant win with. i keep fowling plugs and then the engine races. i used stock 25 and 27.5 and played with the screws.....where do i go from here
  13. yea i read about that. sounds good to me. i got one done so far! MMM billet wheels...
  14. t RUNS!!! Thank you all su much. I was rippin it up all day today! on to the next mod! Studding my dirt dogs for the lake this winter!
  15. oo i didnt even see his reply, sorry. Ur my hero!
  16. any idea what diameter tube i should get?
  17. ok did a little research. i duno wtf happened but i definitley have not reinstalled the choke tube when reassembling the carbs. so like i think i need a new one. can i use like automotive fuel line? What dia. tube do i need?
  18. choke tube eh? where the hell is that. I dont even recall removing that. im only connecting fuel feed and fuel returns. erm...i think. btw im at sea level. on wednesday ill hit up some more r&d. ive got 195 200 220 and 240 jets on hand.
  19. This is great stuff guys...again thanks very much! So basically the 240's i had in about 3 months ago (changed 4 times since) are probably what needs to go in...lol. Wednesday will be my first chance to work on it....so ill report back!
  20. well that answers my question....yea i do need to get one, this is my first quad. Im a car guy... Thanks so much for the help. Can you give me a baseline number of turns out i should have on the tors idle screws? Thx!
  21. Its just jetted worng or those screws need adjusting. it will start and run sort of poorly. I just need to know if im adjusting the right thing. Screws under the seat-are they the air screws? Or are there some screws on the side of the carb?
  22. so i am still fighting to get my quad to run since last summer....i just kinda lost interedst a few times in defeat. All i did was take off the airbox lid and do a prodesign foam filter. Well it wont start unless i roll it down a hill and dump the clutch. then it wont idle unless revved. at this point it seems to run best on 200 mains. i tried up to 240. The questions is where are the airscrews on my 04? I thought they were on top of the carbs where i have to take the seat off to get to em. Now im being told theyre on the side of the carbs....ir. thebansheezone.com diagram. Help!
  23. I have just a k&n kit as well with no lid. Im still trying to get it to run right, but what i can tell you is the 240's i was reccomended made it drown it was so rick i was spittin and backfiring. ive settled on 200's...that seems good. now i need to mess with the airscrews i guess cuz it wtill wont start unless i roll it down a hill
  24. so I have a stock 2000 banshee that ive taken off the airbox lid and added the air filter adapter to run a k&n cone. Ive gone on suggestions to try 240 mains, then i did 220. Now im gonna try 200 i guess. Under inspection it appears stock i had 195 and it ran lean with them. does that sound right? 200 about what i should be running? It wouldnt even run with 240 and bogged like a mo fo on 220 and ran so hot. I dont need to be changing anything else right? Also, whats the baseline for the air bleed adjustment. Whats the preferred method of adjustment? Thanks in advance!
