  1. If you just put new reeds in, and it is idling really fast, you may have an air leak. If it is sucking air in from around the gaskets, it will lean the mixture out and idle really fast (just like when you run out of gas). When you take the reed cages out, you need to clean the gasket surfaces really well. Then replace with new gaskets. Start it up and spray some carb cleaner around the intake and it should suddenly idle up when the carb cleaner is sucked in. Try new gaskets and clean the surfaces really well.
  2. Just reading through the posts and was wondering if you replaced the spark plugs. Sounds silly but a fouled plug can do all kinds of crazy things. Even if you remove it from the cylinder and turn the motor over and get the pretties blue spark you have ever seen, it may still run like crap!
  3. I found it to be incredibly difficult to rejet my banshee. I spent countless hours in my shop and could not get anywhere. I finally got on e-bay and purchased a trinity 2-1 carb.
  4. I have just finished modifying my '01 Banshee. I put Paul Turner mids, VForce3 reed cages and the trinity 2-1 carb setup. This thing is absolutely amazing on the trail. The biggest difference I see is that you don't have to be on the throttle all the time, and changing gears. It is much easier to find a gear and stay in it; rather than changing gears all the time. I would start with the pipes and 2-1 carb (makes tuning much simplier, too). By the way, check e-bay for parts. I purchased most of my stuff off there and it will save you tons of money (the trinity 2-1 was only 227.00!!)
  5. Sorry guys! I failed to change the spark plug. I talked to a guy at the dealer and he said a "fuel-fouled" plug can do anything including appearing as though it works perfectly. I put the motor back togather and it works fine.
  6. I have noticed that the left side of the motor doesn't always run. The right exhaust has good flow and "pop" from it, but the left side just has "air" flowing out with no "pop". I recently disassembled the motor and the left exhaust was full of gas. I emptied it and still the left side doesn't work. I have checked the spark plug and it fires. I recently put new PT mids on it and VForce3 reed cages. The right piston has carbon build up on it, the left side looks as clean as the day I put these Wiseco pistons in. It is brown, from the fuel mixture; it smells like gas and down in the crank it smells like gas. There have been a few times when I accidently left the fuel on, by accident. But I am generally very good about keeping it turned off. Any suggestions?
  7. I think I will just put the stock carbs back on. I guess I will also just pull the cylinder off and check for fuel. I may get back with you regarding jetting of stock carbs when I get to that point. Any suggestions on where to start?
  8. I just put PTR mids, Keihin 30mm carbs, and deltaforce 3 reed cages on my banshee. Other mods include K&N filet with ProFlow intake; I also have reed spacers. I can only start my bike with starting fluid. It idles okay, maybe a little fast but not much. Then, when I open the throttle the motor races off; it really doesn't return to idle speed very well. The needle clip is in the lowest position, pilot is 52 and main is 170. I have checked for air leaks and I don't believe I have any. While idling, I sprayed carb cleaner around the intakes and it didn't rev up. Also, I had noticed that the left side of the motor didn't have hardly any flow through the silencer. When I took the stock pipes off, the left pipe was full of gas. Apparently, I had left the fuel on. I am generally very good about turning the gas off. Now, I just noticed that there is no exhaust flow through the left side. The gas was not left on. I sat the banshee up on the grab bar and no fuel leaked out of the silencer. The right pipe was warm from the little bit of running at idle, but the left side was not. The left spark plug does work. I just not real sure why I am having so much trouble getting the jetting right. I am convinced that there is not an air leak. Any suggestions!
  9. It was the gas! I put fresh gas in and it works just fine. I should know from being in medicine that if I hear hooves, look for horses, not zebras!
  10. I have an '01 Banshee, it has a K&N filter, Prodesign intake, and std Wiseco pistons. I hadn't ridden it for several months and recently gotten it out. It ran fine for several hours, then it started bogging down much like when a plug gets fouled; in fact, the left side exhaust went away. I replaced both plugs and it idled fine, revved fine; however, when I took off, it bogged down really bad. Also, it makes a slight winding noise that I hadn't noticed. I use bel-ray H1R oil, mixed at 40:1. I have a lot of oil in the airbox. I never re-jetted the carbs when I installed the K&N. I still smokes really bad and fouls plugs more often than before the K&N. I run it without the airbox lid. Any suggestions? Do the pipes get clogged? Should I clean them out? How? When I feel the exhaust on the left side, it feels as though there is not compression. You know, it just feels like a continous flow of air rather than the charges of compressed air coming out. Thank you!
  11. I have checked the plugs and they are dark; in fact, they have oil dripping off of them!
  12. Ever since I removed the TORS and put a twist throttle on my bike, it seems to run rich. It seems to go through plugs more than any two-stroke I have had. I mix oil at 32:1. I added a ProFlo Intake and K&N, the dealer told me I probably wouldn't have to re-jet because the stock banshee's are a little too rich anyway. I have even taken off the airbox lid. It seems to smoke a lot, particularly after I have run it on the top end for a brief moment. Any ideas?
  13. At the advice of several readers last year, I added a ProFlo intake and K&N filter. I would now like to know what mods I should now consider. Again, I have about $150 to spend. My bike is stock, except for the intake and filter, twist throttle, and 1/2 inch reed spacers. Your help is greatly appreciated.
