OKCterror Posted November 9, 2008 Report Posted November 9, 2008 So i pretty much drag the shee as much as i can or just goof on on the mx track on my propery but my question is the guy at a local shop said i should get a 2-5 override. Explain in full detail what this is. I have a good idea(goes threw 2-5 without using the clutch or shifting) but i still do trails and like to stay in low gears. What setup would work for me or do i just have to pick(drag or mx) and go with it? Also what is the shifter star mod? Help me out so i can get a roll on my winter project-Dan Quote
Bansh-eman Posted November 9, 2008 Report Posted November 9, 2008 if your trail riding or mxing dopnt get and override. you can not backload them without doing damage past around 8k rpms. If you were doing only drag racing and open dune riding they are golden but not for what your saying you do. Quote
Wildcardracing Posted November 9, 2008 Report Posted November 9, 2008 If you plan on doin any type of ridin besides drag, the I'd stay away from the override. Reguardless of what you may hear, it's not a good idea to backload the duneable ones. None of them are suited for trails or MX. Quote
J-Madd Posted November 9, 2008 Report Posted November 9, 2008 To add to that, don't do the shift star mod if you go with an override. It won't work if you go with neutral down. I've read a lot about trail riding and mxing dunable overrides, but I have no personal experience with then with that type of riding. I will say that I treat my dunables like full overrides; just to be safe. Quote

Well I have a tyson 2-5 (not duneable) in my duner and I run it hard all over the dunes, although mostly dragging on the flats. I went thru a set of shift forks about three quarters of the way thru summer and I am seeing signs of wear on the ramps that they ground in the backside of the dogs. I would not recommend this set up for trail/mx riding. I try not to backload mine but its hard not to if you do anything but drag race. my .02 Quote
