itsjustagreat1 Posted August 4, 2008 Report Posted August 4, 2008 Ok couldn't get my bike running after a hot day of riding, so checked spark and plugs and they were good. I checked my compression,(which I knew was getting low) and found that it was 118 on the left and 94 on the right and this is with 19 domes at 2000 feet. So anyway I tore the motor down and checked the pistons. THe rings are thin. I am at a 65mm bore also. My question is, my widest clearence is 65.06 in the cylinders. If I hone the cylinders will I be ok going with just a new set of pistons and rings? I had no scoring in the cylinders. Thanks for any input. Quote
Machwon Posted August 4, 2008 Report Posted August 4, 2008 The 65.06mm will give most fresh set of Wiseco's a .005 clearance (that's the recommended limit) which is where you want to freshen up the bore. I'd recommend going to the next size at least. How did you check the bores and did you check around the intake, exhuast and ring ridge areas? Without a dial bore guage its difficult to tell those areas. Also did you check if the bore was out of round as well. Quote
shanYE west Posted August 4, 2008 Report Posted August 4, 2008 I agree.. I'd just go to the next bore size and get a fresh set of pistons and not worry about it for another few yrs. Quote
